Blessed Unrest Presents MACHINAL, 2/13-3/14

By:

Blessed Unrest, Winner of the 2008 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, presents MACHINAL at the InterArt Theater, 500 West 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019. Performances begin Saturday, February 19 through Monday, March 14.

Written by Sophie Treadwell in 1928, MACHINAL is a powerful expressionist drama about women's financial dependence on men, and one woman's attempt to break free. It is a play about New York City, about claustrophobia, about the maddening banter of people going through the motions, about faith and God and the role of religion. It is about decent people craving love in a disconnected world.

The first professional company to have been granted the rights to this production in five years, Blessed Unrest uses the safe structure of training, rehearsal and performance to create an environment where dangerous things can happen.

Blessed Unrest's MACHINAL is written by Sophie Treadwell and Directed by Damen Scranton (Burn, Crave, Hold, winner of the 2008 NY Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Production).
The cast features Zenzelé Cooper, Eunjee Lee*, Nurit Monacelli*, Sophie Nimmannit, Celli Pitt*, Darrell Stokes*, Laura Wickens* and Jason Winfield. (*Appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association. Equity Approved Showcase.)

Blessed Unrest is a non-profit experimental theatre company based in New York City and has been generating original work since 1999. They perform internationally and are the resident company at the InterArt Theater on West 52nd Street in New York. Blessed Unrest is committed to producing dynamic, disciplined, and exuberant new works for the stage by training and collaborating as an ensemble of artists, building original pieces, and reconstructing established texts.
