A generous benefactor is working to help Wayside Theatre raise $40,000 before July 3. He's offered the theatre a challenge. If Wayside Theatre and its supporters can raise $20,000 by July 3rd he'll match that dollar for dollar with $20,000 providing some much needed support to the Shenandoah Valley's only full-time professional theatre that operates year round.

The Tony Award(r)-winning Signature Theatre is searching for the ten best new solo singers in the DC region to compete in 'Signature Idol' on Saturday, July 17. Judged by Signature Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, Washington Post theater critic Peter Marks, and a special Broadway guest, the 'Signature Idol' competition is a highlight of the Target Open House where the ten finalists will audition publicly in the 276-seat MAX Theatre at 5:00 pm.

The series of four, free concerts will begin on Sunday, June 27 at 5 p.m. and will be held in the gazebo of McLean Central Park, 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd. Free parking is available at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Gordon's SYCAMORE TREES at Signature Closes 6/13

Previews will begin today at Virginia's Signature Theatre for the world premiere musical Sycamore Trees written by Ricky Ian Gordon, the award-winning composer of the opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life with Albertine. A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.

The Four County Players of Barboursville, VA have scheduled the next two Saturdays, June 5 and 12 as spring clean up days. They will be gathering at Four County Players, 5256 Governor Barbour Street, at 10 AM and working until 2PM. They need a few pick up trucks to assist with the last of the barn clean-out at Barboursville Vineyard. Most of the items from the 'Shakespeare at the Ruins' day have been moved to the playhouse, but their are a few large items that remain to be moved.

On Friday, June 11 at 7:30pm, Lime Kiln hosts a Southern Rock night with Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band Second Helping. Founded in 1988 in Tampa, Florida by Chris McCallister. Second Helping was the first Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band in the United States.
