Roots Rock Group Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem Performs at The Alden 12/10

The Alden in McLean will host acclaimed roots rock band, Rani Arbo and daisy mayhem for one performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. The band’s eclectic roots music is a fresh take on America’s musical traditions, combining folk, blues, swing, Cajun and traditional pop influences. Tickets are $25, $18 for McLean tax district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

Rani Arbo, a skilled fiddler, is the founder and lead singer of the group. Her bewitching, expressive alto voice navigates swing tunes, funky call-and-response songs and ballads with unusual honesty and ease. Other band members include Andrew Kinsey (double bass, banjo and vocals), Anand Nayak (guitar and vocals) and Scott Kessel (percussion, drums and vocals). Kessel pilots “The Drumship Enterprise,” a recycled drum kit comprised of a cardboard box, cat food tins, a Danish butter cookie tin and a suitcase, which he uses to mix up American rock and pop beats with African, Afro-Cuban, New Orleans, and South American rhythms to create the foundation of daisy mayhem's unmistakable groove. “This quartet has the rare gift for fashioning hip, sleek sounds from the solid cloth of vintage American music.” —The Boston Globe
