First Night season in Nashville kicked into high gear on Monday night, August 16, as some of Nashville's best-loved actors released their 'inner Tyra' during the First Night Fashion Extravaganza at Macy's Green Hills. Some of the season's hottest Red Carpet Fashions were featured in the fashion show in advance of The First Night Nashville Theatre Honors, slated for Sunday, September 19, at Belmont University's Troutt Theatre.

Herbie Hancock to Perform at Schermerhorn Symphony Center 8/22

Pianist Herbie Hancock, one of jazz music's most celebrated artists, will perform at Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at 7 p.m. Tickets to the concert are currently available for purchase only to the Nashville Symphony's 2010/11 season ticket holders. Single tickets will be available to the general public beginning July 17, 2010.

Limelight, in East Nashville, was transformed into a swanky Las Vegas casino and showroom when Street Theatre Company's It's Vegas, Baby! was brought back 'by popular demand' on Thursday, August 12. Local actors and playwrights Dietz Osborne and Nate Eppler emceed the festivities for the successful fundraiser for the Nashville theatre company. The evening featured a 'floor show' featuring some of the company's most popular performers in a wide variety of numbers onstage.

Auditions for Macabaret, (Director: Pam Atha, Musical Director: Rollie Mains) and Six Degrees of Separation, (Director: Paul Cook) will be held on Saturday, September 11th. Six Degrees auditions will be held from 10-2 and Macabaret auditions from 1-6, with callbacks on Monday and Tuesday.

Nashville Ballet Tickets On Sale 9/7

Nashville Ballet single tickets for the 25th Anniversary Season will be available Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The Ballet will offer some of the most requested productions for a full year of ballet favorites. All evening performances have been moved to 7:30 p.m., with the exception of Nashville's Nutcracker, which will be performed at 7:00 p.m. A special family performance, Peter and the Wolf, created specifically for a younger ballet audience, will be presented Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Artistic Director/CEO Paul Vasterling states, 'As we mark this milestone year, I have selected a collection of audience favorites, with something for everyone. In the last decade, the company as a whole has evolved in their strength, the pureness of line, and a distinct look that has captured national attention. School of Nashville Ballet will host an Open House Sunday, August 1, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. at the Martin Center for Dance, home of Nashville Ballet. The public is invited to come meet our faculty, register for classes and have a tour of the dance studio. Spell's Dancewear will be available to outfit dance students. 'Splintered Self', a conjoined project developed by artist Amanda Dillingham and Jason Driskill, will be on exhibit at the Blend Studio, 79 Arcade building, downtown Nashville. The opening reception will be Saturday, September 4th from 6-9 pm during the First Saturday Gallery Crawl. In addition to the exhibit at Blend Studio, the artists are accepting photos from the public to be used in the exhibit (see below). An artist talk is planned for September 25th from 4 to 5:30pm at Blend Studio.

Blackbird Theater, the newest member of Nashville's burgeoning community of theater companies, makes an auspicious debut with the premiere of Wes Driver and Greg Greene's smartly written new script - Twilight of the Gods - now onstage at David Lipscomb University's Shamblin Theatre. Featuring a truly outstanding ensemble performance from the 13-member cast (with particularly impressive turns by Britt Byrd and Patrick Kramer), Twilight of the Gods might best be described as a murder mystery cum drawing room comedy cum intellectual discussion.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will open The Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, and the exhibition will remain on view in Nashville through Jan. 23, 2011, when the works in the show return to Paris.
