Towne Centre Theatre Presents ANYTHING GOES, Now thru 10/26

All aboard at Towne Centre Theatre for Cole Porter's It's Anything Goes, jam packed with spectacular dance numbers and fabulous music. Romance is in the air but it's far from smooth sailing for those onboard the S.S. American ocean liner. The musical comedy follows the story of stowaway Billy Crocker pursuing his love, Hope, who is engaged to another man. With the help of nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy No. 13, Moonface Martin, they join forces in Billy's quest to win Hope's heart.

Sporting a new name (they were formerly known at Tennessee Repertory Theatre), Nashville Rep presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. With direction by Rene D. Copeland, a book by Hugh Wheeler and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd tells the horrific story of love, murder, deception, and deceitfulness.

Tennessee Repertory Theatre recently announced its plans to open its 30th anniversary season with Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This announcement means that Tennessee Rep will close its 29th season with one Stephen Sondheim musical (Company) and open its 30th season with another Sondheim musical (Sweeney Todd).

CC Playhouse to Stage INHERIT THE WIND

In July, Cumberland County Playhouse and the Scopes Trial Festival in Dayton co-produced Front Page News, a new, historically accurate 'play with music' about the famous Scopes 'Monkey Trial.' Following that success, director Jim Crabtree turns to the fictional drama inspired by those events, Inherit The Wind. The play is based on elements of the Scopes trial, but also inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s. Crabtree's hymn-filled production strives to promote respect for all views. 'Working on Front Page News was a revelation,' says Crabtree. 'The more I learned the actual surrounding the Scopes Trial, the more respect I gained for the real people of Dayton. This knowledge informs our Inherit The Wind.'
Clarence Brown to Offer 'Deaf Night at the Theatre' Performances

Nashville Rep Adds Additional SWEENEY TODD Performances

Due to popular demand, Nashville Repertory Theatre has extended its production of the multiple Tony Award-winning musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Performances have been added through Saturday, November 1. Sweeney Todd runs October 4 - November 1 at TPAC's Johnson Theater (with preview performances October 2 - 3). The Rep's 2008 production of Sweeney Todd had a completely sold out run.

Once: The Musical brings a taste of Ireland to Nashville this week as the national tour makes a stop at Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Once: The Musical, based on the 2006 indie film, is set in Dublin and centers on two characters known only as Guy and Girl. Their story is as much about the love and power of music as it is about the love between the two characters themselves. The movie's most famous song, 'Falling Slowly' won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Broadway production of Once: The Musical swept the Tony Awards in 2012, receiving 11 Tony nominations and winning 8 Tony Awards including the crown jewel, Best Musical.

Today OZ, Nashville's first contemporary arts center, announces its 2014-15 season, which runs today, September 12, 2014 - June 27, 2015. The season is bookended by premieres, beginning with two performances (September 12 & 13) of Tim Robbins' interpretation of A Midsummer Night's Dream, produced and acted by the company he founded and leads, The Actors' Gang, in the production's first U.S. engagement outside of the company's home theater in Los Angeles. OZ's 2014-15 program will conclude with the world premiere (June 18-20) of Memory Rings, the latest multi-media stage production from innovative New York City-based puppetry collective Phantom Limb Company.
