Mandy Barnett to Play Christmas Concert, Today

By:
November 28 marks the return of Crossville's hometown star Mandy Barnett, fresh from acclaimed performances with The Nashville Symphony Orchestra and a new hit record available at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. Mandy will perform songs from her various albums, classic country and pop tunes, and Christmas songs -- ushering in the warmth and joy of the holiday season with "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "Winter Wonderland," "Jingle Bell Rock," and others.

Mandy's current album, "I Can't Stop Loving You: The Songs of Don Gibson," fulfills a promise Mandy made to her friend and Country Music Hall of Fame member, singer/songwriter Don Gibson, and includes such iconic songs as the title track, "Sweet Dreams," and "Oh Lonesome Me." In reviewing this album, USA Today called Mandy one of the "finest classic country and torch singers" to come out of Nashville. Other reviewers called "I Can't Stop Loving You: The Songs of Don Gibson" "a riveting album" that showcases Mandy's "exquisite," "powerful and spellbinding," "soaring country torch" voice.

Mandy's talents hearken back to the era of great female singers and timeless sounds. Among the many publications praising Mandy, the Los Angeles Times has heralded her "pipes of steel," "big" voice and "vintage-sounding arrangements." Time, People, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and other major magazines have likewise extolled Mandy's world-class vocals, "preternatural interpretative gifts" (Playboy), and "natural musicality" (People). Mandy is a frequent guest on the Grand Ole Opry and her music has been featured on many film and television soundtracks. She has appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Show with David Letterman," "CBS Sunday Morning," PBS's "Sessions at West 54th," and numerous other television programs.

Also at the Playhouse: baseball musical Damn Yankees, co-sponsored by Dr. Vianney Villaruz, M.D., Cardiology CMM-CMG and The Beef & Barrel/The Blind Zebra/Red's Ale House, rated PG, through November 9; and Inherit the Wind, rated G and sponsored by Stanley Bise, M.D. and Dr. Anthony Wilson, through November 14.
