Northrop Announces Lineup For Summer 2010

The University of Minnesota Department of Concerts and Lectures and the University of Minnesota Summer Session Office present Summer at Northrop - 24 free, outdoor concerts located on the Northrop plaza, the majority from noon to 1:00 pm beginning Friday, June 11, and new this year, five evening concerts from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

Spanning across the months of June and July, Summer at Northrop (celebrating its 56th Anniversary) offers an eclectic variety of musical genres and cultures. The official launch of the summer concert series begins with Romantica, Irish-Americana rocksters on June 14. Ice cream treats from University Dining Services and sample sandwiches from Jimmy Johns will be served this day while supplies last. Attendees can also enter to win prizes.

For more information, visit Northrop's Website or call 612-625-2345.

Lunch is available for purchase daily at the University Dining Service's Northrop Grill starting June 14. The University of Minnesota Farmers Market, located on Church Street, starts July 7 running every Wednesday until October 6 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

SAVE SUMMER AT NORTHROP! Join us in the fight to save the Summer Concerts at Northrop! Every summer the Department of Concerts and Lectures and University of Minnesota Summer Session present 24-25 concerts that showcase the best local musical talent. Bands such as Romantica, Lynhurst, Kristoff Krane, Jelloslave, France Has the Bomb, and the U of M's own student band Dingus have graced our summer set. But now, we are in danger of losing the music that keeps the plaza alive in the summer.

The Northrop Summer Concert Series will lose funding unless you show your support for the concerts and willingness to help fund them through student fees.

So music lovers, it's up to you! Join our group, show your support, and speak your mind! Keep the music alive. Search for us on Facebook and sign the discussion board, or sign the petition available at the concerts.
