Broward State Door Theatre's BUBBLING BROWN SUGAR Charms Audiences and Critics, Runs Thru 11/22

ubbling Brown Sugar is a musical revue written by Loften Mitchell based on a concept by Rosetta LeNoire and featuring the music of numerous African-American artists who were popular during this period, including Duke Ellington, Eubie Blake, Count Basie, Cab Calloway and Fats Waller. It was nominated for the Tony Award as, 'Best Musical.' The revue is scheduled through Nov. 22 at Broward Stage Door Theatre, 8036 W. Sample Road, Coral Springs.

Florida's West Coast Players presents The Complete Works of William Shakespeare - Abridged. Written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, this three-person cast parody of Shakespeare plays has been seen in London for over nine years, and is presented here by special arrangement with Broadway Play Publishing, Inc. Directed by Ashlie Mohney, the WCP production will run November 6-22.

Stage Door producers Derelle Bunn and David Torres brought in Mark Goodman, a Broadway orchestrator who had worked on such shows as 'Zorro' with Anthony Quinn, 'Mame' with Juliet Prowse, and 'Woman of the Year' with Lauren Bacall to recreate the orchestrations and write out the books for the musical parts. Meanwhile, director Dan Kelley painstakingly transcribed lyrics from old recordings.

Michael Frayn is an English playwright and novelist. He began as a reporter for The Guardian and The Observer after graduating college in 1957. His first novel, The Tin Men, was published in 1965 winning him his first of many accolades. His other award winning novels include Headlong, The Russian Interpreter and Spies. Considered to be Britain's finest translator of Anton Chekhov, he adapted four major plays along with several smaller plays for an evening called The Sneeze in London in 1988. Theatrically, Frayn is the playwright for such well received plays including Noises Off, Benefactors, Wild Honey and Democracy.

The Sedoctaves, UF's only all-female A Cappella group is set to make their debut performance at the Squitieri Studio Theatre on Thursday, November 19 and Sunday, November 22. The group, established in 2005, is a completely student-run organization that has taken the Gainesville a cappella scene by storm.
