UM Jerry Herman Ring Theatre Announces 2011-12 Season

The University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Theatre Arts presents its 2011-2012 Season which kicks off on September 14, 2011 with Night Train to Bolina, a play written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Miami native Nilo Cruz.

Told by an all male cast of four, MOMMIE QUEEREST entertains the notion that Crawford was actually a man in drag, a fact she hid from her fans, her children, and the world. Even when Christina finds out, takes revenge, and writes 'Daddy Dearest' it's Joan who still has the last laugh.

CIRQUE DREAMS will let its imagination go wild when entertaining thousands of U.S. troops and their families throughout the world in conjunction with Armed Forces Entertainment beginning January 2012. Starting with the Broadway production of CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY, this first world tour of its kind will perform at 17 military installations throughout 10 countries including Germany, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, Japan, Okinawa, Guam and Southwest Asia reaching more than 100,000 troops and their families.

What follows is a musically accompanied account of the skin crawling, zombie fighting, brain craving mayhem and a true testament to the couple's 'Undying Love.' Named Creative Loafing Readers' Pick for Best Theater Premiere & Best Play in Atlanta, The Promethean Theatre is the first theatre outside of Dad's Garage to produce this play.
Boca Raton Theatre Guild Announces 2011 - 2012 Season

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild announced the plays it has selected for its 2011-2012 season: Sarah Jones' Bridge and Tunnel, Charles Busch's Tales of the Allergist's Wife, the musical Sweet Charity, and Paulette Dozier in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. They will all play at the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton's Sugar Sand Park.

On September 15, Louis Armstrong comes back to life at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre where Dennis Neal stars in the world premiere of Terry Teachout's Satchmo at the Waldorf, a one-man play about the most beloved jazzman of all time. Set at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong performed in public for the last time before his death in 1971, Satchmo at the Waldorf is a theatrical tour de force, a play in which the same actor portrays Armstrong and Joe Glaser, the trumpeter's controversial manager. Inspired by their actual words, the play takes a searching look at the complex relationship between the genius from New Orleans who turned jazz into a swinging art form and the hard-nosed, tough-talking ex-gangster from Chicago who made him an international icon.

This season's theme of 'family' is kicked off with the Bard's triumphant family history, Henry V, adapted and directed by Ronald Mangravite, running August 26 - September 11, 2011. Henry V, the final play about the reigning family crown, chronicles King Henry V's war with France over land and titles. As part of the National New Play Network's Continued Life for New Plays Fund and in conjunction with Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival in Kentucky and Actor's Express Theatre in Atlanta, New Theatre presents the rolling World Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them by recent Yale Playwrighting graduate A. Rey Pamatmat and directed by THE NEW's Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, running October 14 - 30, 2011.
