6 New Shows Set To Come to the King Center

The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors in 1988. Since that time, it has had a profound impact on the cultural and artistic landscape of Brevard County and Central Florida. The need for a performing arts center in Brevard County had been apparent for many years. Periodically, task forces were formed to try to garner the necessary funds, but each time the costs were deemed prohibitive and the idea was abandoned.

Manhattan born Arthur Miller is one of the most highly esteemed American playwrights. He is recognized for his insight and keen perception into the tribulations of the American working class. His play Death of a Salesman won Miller the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1949. Miller's other best known works include The Man Who Had All The Luck, A View From the Bridge, and After The Fall.

New Theatre (THE NEW) continues it's 'family' theme season with the National New Play Network's Rolling World Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them, running October 14 - 30, 2011. This timely and controversial work examines the lives of two all but abandoned teens having to create a makeshift family and its values while getting through the pangs of growing up. New Theatre joins the prestigious Humana Festival of New Plays at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, where it had its first production and the Actor's Express in Atlanta, GA to present the National New Play Network's Rolling World Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them.
