Acorn Shakespeare Ensemble's THE TEMPEST Ends Run 4/20

The Acorn Shakespeare Ensemble, presenters of the "Naked Shakespeare" series, announces that the company's abridged version of The Tempest, which will be performed on Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19 at Luther Bonny Talbot Hall on the USM Portland campus, will also be performed twice at the St. Lawrence Arts Center on Monday, April 19 and Tuesday, April 20. These added shows will take place on "dark nights" during the upcoming Maine Playwrights Festival. Naked Shakespeare's production of The Tempest features 9 actors from the Naked Shakespeare company and is directed by company member Harlan Baker, who has given the piece a Caribbean flair to evoke the island on which the action of the play takes place. All four performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation.

Acorn Productions, a non-profit art presented located in the Dana Warp Mill, has finalized plans for the 2010 Maine Playwrights Festival (MPF), the ninth annual spotlight on brand new plays by local writers, which will take place from April 15 to May 2 at the St. Lawrence Arts Center on Munjoy Hill in Portland.
Registration Opens for The Hackmatack Playhouse's Children's Theatre Camp

Registration has begun for the 2010 Children's Theatre Camp at The Hackmatack Playhouse, Route 9 in Berwick, Maine. Katie Rodgers is the director of the program. According to Rodgers, 'The children's 2010 summer play will be an original show called THE WORLD'S A STAGE, using American music from the Tin Pan Alley era (Gershwin, Foster, Joplin, Berlin). The campers will have the chance to insert their own personalities and ideas into the show, and will, as always, help paint and build their sets and design and create their own costumes.'

Hackmatack Playhouse Raises Funds for Non-Profits

There was buzz last summer among members of Dover's Temple Israel following one of their nights out at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick to see 'The Producers.' Not only did they fill the house with laughter and applause, but it was a very successful fund raiser for the Temple. Once again, Hackmatack is offering non-profit organizations the opportunity to raise money this summer during any of the recently announced shows.

The Ogunquit Playhouse is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert F. Levinstein to the new position of Associate Producer. Robert has been associated with the Playhouse since 2002, first as the resident Production Stage Manager and then starting in 2008 as the Director of Production. As Associate Producer, Robert will oversee all theatrical operations for the 78-year-old company, named by the press as America's Foremost Summer Theatre.
