The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and TV's Fred Rogers had two things in common-they prioritized the beloved community, that we should all have the opportunity to be seen and heard by our neighbors regardless of identity affiliation; chosen or not. In this spirit of kindness and compassion, the Faith Always Wins Foundation (FAWF) and the Kansas City Interfaith Youth Alliance (KCIYA) are co-hosting a free screening of the documentary film 'Won't You Be My Neighbor' for high-school age students. The showing will take place on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 21. The free film will be shown at AMC 20 Town Center followed by a panel discussion led by members of KCIYA's Leadership Team. Doors open at 4 p.m.; the film will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the program concluding by 7 p.m.

Kansas City Actors Theatre has completed casting for its production of Ariel Dorfman's "Death and the Maiden," which will run from January 9th to the 27th at the City Stage in Union Station. The production will be directed by Cinnamon Schultz and will star Vanessa Severo, Robert Gibby Brand, and Rusty Sneary. The production team includes Gary Mosby (Scenic Designer,) Deb Morgan (Properties Designer), Georgianna Buchanan (Costume Designer), Shane Rowse (Lighting Designer), Jonathan Robertson (Sound Designer), Mary Allison Joseph (Dramaturg), and Kyle Dyck (Technical Director).
Jewish Family Services Announces Upcoming Programs And Activities

The Learn Laugh & Love program series, sponsored by Jewish Family Services and the Heritage Center of the Jewish Community Center, will present a free program on Thursday, Jan. 17, "New Year--New You…Nutrition Made Simple" at 1 p.m. in the MAC Room at the Campus. Crystal Futrell, a specialist in nutrition and health with the Johnson County Research and Extension program will facilitate a conversation about people's relationship with food and consequences on their health.  Futrell has worked with the Master Food Volunteer program as the Family Nutrition Program (FNP) program assistant prior to becoming Family and Consumer Sciences Agent/Nutrition and Health.

Lyric Opera Of Kansas City Announces 2019 Exploration Series

General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the next production of Lyric Opera of Kansas City's Explorations Series, Mack The Knife is The Man I Love: A Weill-Gershwin Cabaret which will feature the songs of George and Ira Gershwin and Kurt Weill. The 2018-2019 Explorations Series performance, with musical direction by Mark Markham and stage direction by Fenlon Lamb, will showcase the Lyric Opera's Resident Artists, including Kaylie Kahlich, Kelly Birch, Joseph Leppek, and James Maverick, plus Apprentice Artists Ruby Dibble, Jonathan Ray, and Armando Contreras. The performance will be held February 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyric Opera's Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building.

The Theatre in the Park Winter Academy presented ZOMBIE PROM, for a limited engagement on Friday, December 28 and Saturday, December 29. The performance would best be described as fabulous, hilarious and one of the most professional young performer musicals to have appeared in Kansas City. Unfortunately for theater audiences, it did only run two days, so it had a limited audience.

Resident companies the Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Symphony, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City, along with numerous other community arts organizations continue to thrive in their Kauffman Center performance home.
