Cork Opera House is honoured and proud to present the second annual Gamelan performance, in association with UCC School of Music and Theatre Studies, following the incredible success of 2011. This year will see a concert of new music, dance and traditional Javanese music performed by the UCC Gamelan, together with Colin Dunne, Kate Ellis and some very special guests.
The UCC Javanese gamelan – a set of 66 bronze gongs and metallophones, drums, ?ute, spiked ?ddle and zither – arrived in Cork in 1995 after a sea journey of three months. Since that time Javanese gamelan has been studied at UCC and has now become an integral part of the musical fabric of Cork.
