The play opens with a novelist in the middle of his new effort and his partner cum critic. With whom he discusses the dreams, lifestyle, confusions and the conflict in relationship through his characters. Almost in all the moves his partner comes up with a different point of view.
The novelist picked up a young, middle class, creative, confused unhappy man and his apparently practical wife who wants to live her life in the given social frame work.
The conflict actually starts with his work itself. In the first place he wants to be different from the previous novel. The very thought of 'being different' is found in the man he created and in the same time the shadow of his own partner is clearly visible in the female character.
It seems, unconsciously the creator and his surrounding are somewhat the mirror image of the characters from his novel. In spite of the difference of profession, in the same economic class, same social structure we dream the same. Our desires and despairs are no different. Our confusions and conflicts evoke from the same and push us away from each other. I, me and myself becomes the obvious chant of a clinical life.
The life of the hero and the heroine of the novel came together with their individual dreams under the disguise of love. The pretension of being together was not clear to them. They thought it real because by then pretension became their own identity. They actually were looking for a life of their personal perception. No togetherness was behind that. As the result slowly they became distant and finally departed from each other.
Is it a life of human being? Who can observe, think and decide for something else? Here comes another character who denied using a given name which symbolizes his mind to think afresh, the one to stand outside the forced and mechanized thought process. He questions whether we accept knowing our actual self, our mind without pretension.
At the end of the play through the dialogue a deep crisis of the protagonist surfaces up. Though he does not accept his pretentious mind but begs an idea from the nameless man to wipe out the darkness around. The man says that he does not carry any solution with him but searches for that because at list he has a mind to question.
This much the novelist could write so this much the protagonist could see. The rest is a positive dream. If we can dream a better world for all, precisely a world of cooperation, probably its not very far.
Once again, a better world is not very far.
