Wotan fathered the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde with a human woman. Because a free hero should do what he cannot himself as guardian of the laws: recover the ring lost in the Rheingold and its power. On the run, Siegmund is Adil protection in the home. The children separated recognize themselves as brothers and sisters and be lovers. After the night of love, Siegmund is Adil husband Hunding to fight. As the guardian of law, custom and marriage convinced Wotan's wife Fricka him that divine support of Siegmund would shake the foundations of the system. Wotan surrenders and orders the Valkyrie Brünnhilde Siegmund death. Brünnhilde is touched by the love of the couple and her father resisted. While Siegmund dies by Wotan's intervention, she can save Sieglinde expected son of Siegmund. Wotan banished the disobedient daughter, however is the place where it sinks into sleep with a ring of fire. She should be of the fearless woman who finds her and awakens.

With Das Rheingold, Richard Wagner had begun its cycle in the world of the gods, Giants and dwarves. In Die Walküre, gods and human world linked to the fate of lovers and existential relationship issues under negotiation.
