SEEKING

Ethnically diverse, Exceptional, Versatile singers - character and legit. A sense of humor is mandatory. Non-traditional and cross-gender casting considered.

PREPARATION

Prepare one musical comedy song to show your range, Sondheim preferred. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume.

BREAKDOWN

Sweeney Todd:
male, age 40 - 55; a wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him; Johanna's father, singularly focused on taking bloody revenge; the tormented protagonist. Bass baritone, range F2 - Gb4. This role is CAST.

Mrs. Lovett:
female, age 35 - 50;.an entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner who falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Alto, range G3 - E5.

Anthony Hope:
male, age 20 - 30; a naive and youthful sailor returning to London who helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. Bari-tenor, range Bb2 - F4.

Johanna:
female, age 18 - 25; a spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom, who is Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward. Soprano, range Bb3 - A5.

Tobias Ragg:
male or female, age dependent upon casting; a poor apprentice to Pirelli who finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett. Tenor or Alto, range Bb2 - Ab4.

Judge Turpin:
male, 50’s or 60’s; a lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian, takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd. Bass, range E2 - Gb4.

The Beadle:
male or female, age 40 - 55; a pompous public official, deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin. Tenor or Alto, range D3 - D5.

Beggar Woman:
female, age 35 - 50; a deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret. Alto, range Ab3 - F5.

Adolfo Pirelli:
male or female, age 30 - 45; a flamboyant, charlatan barber who pretends to be Italian but is actually Irish. Tenor or Soprano, range B2 - C5.

Quintet or Sextet Ensemble:
Jonas Fogg, Birdseller, Townspeople, Policemen, Lunatics.

NOTE: WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TODD AND LOVETT, THE ENSEMBLE MAY BE DRAWN FROM ACTORS PLAYING OTHER CHARACTERS.
