BREAKDOWN

PUMP UP THE VOLUME

SEEKING:

[MARK/”HARD HARRY”] An offer is out on this track. Middle C–High A (belt) [ROCK TENOR], 18+ to play high school age, any ethnicity. The new kid in town. By day, Mark is a shy outsider, too timid to speak his mind; at night, he’s “Hard Harry,” the raucous Pirate Radio Shock Jock who’ll say or do anything to provoke the powers-that-be. Harry has a glint in his eye; impulsive, gleeful and edgily demonic.

[NORA] Low F–High E (belt) [ROCK ALTO], 18+ to play high school age, any ethnicity. Fierce, independent-minded, “downtown” girl whose mouth gets her in trouble, a revolutionary enraptured by Harry’s reckless abandon.

[MAZZ] Low C to high G# or A (belt) [ROCK BARI-TENOR], 18+ to play high school age, any ethnicity. Rough-and-tumble rebel who won’t take crap from anybody; Harry’s first fan, Mazz is a lovable tough guy who runs a successful underground business hocking Hard Harry merch.

[PAIGE] Low G–High Eb (belt/mix). Upper-crust, hard-working valedictorian who some kids might call a prude. In her sweater sets and pearls, Paige is initially the lone holdout from the vile “cult” of Hard Harry — but, as the story progresses, she opens her eyes to the complicated, messy world around her, developing a new, stronger sense of self.

[LIEUTENANT HUNTER] CAST. Middle C–High Eb [ROCK BARITONE], any ethnicity, Mid-to-Late 40s, Mark’s father; a short-tempered, no-nonsense cop. Recently divorced and alone in a new town, he needs to learn to see his son for who he is, not who he wants him to be.

[PRINCIPAL CRESSWOOD] CAST. Low F –High D (belt) [Rock Alto], any ethnicity, Late 30s-Early 50s. Conservative and dictatorial high school principal. NOTE: Though Ms. Cresswood is often quite humorless, the role is designed for an actress with strong comedic skills.

[MALCOLM] CAST. Low Bb–High G# (belt/mix) [ROCK BARI-TENOR], 18+ to play high school age,
any ethnicity. A withdrawn, socially awkward loner; tender-hearted and breakable. His tragic story
galvanizes the teens to stand up and be heard.

[STACEY] Low G–High D (belt/mix). Sassy and gossipy Hard Harry groupie; Tracie’s best friend.

[TRACIE] Low G–High D (belt/mix) (plus an operatic High C). Any ethnicity, Stacey’s best friend; not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

[RICKY] Middle C–High G# (belt). Any ethnicity. A Hard Harry hanger-on. A dude’s dude.

[MALE IDENTIFYING ENSEMBLE] Middle C–High G# (belt). Looking for a unique, youthful and authentic individual to represent other high school students inspired by Harry who need to have their voices heard. Any type. Any ethnicity.

[FEMALE IDENTIFYING ENSEMBLE] Low G-High Eb (belt/mix). Looking for a unique, youthful and authentic individual to represent other high school students inspired by Harry who need to have their voices heard. Any type. Any ethnicity.
