SEEKING

:

LADY DAY AT EMERSON'S BAR AND GRILL:

Billie Holiday: 44 years old. Black, female-presenting. From once selling out Carnegie Hall to now playing seedy clubs, the icon has faded as a result of years of physical abuse, an openly racist music industry and justice system, and a crippling addiction to heroin and alcohol. Embodies the spirit of Billie Holiday. Translates her vulnerability, wit, and dark humor that flows through the singer four months before her death.

Jimmy Powers: Black. Billie Holiday’s pianist. He is a constant in Holiday’s life and is very caring and supportive towards her. He is able to think on his feet, as he improvises on the piano around Billie’s spontaneous performance decisions. Speaking role, non-singing. (will also music direct the production).

FINDING CHASE:

GLEN PRESSFIELD: Black, Mid-Late 40s. Male-Identifying/presenting. Chase's 8-year partner. Mature. Kind. Gentle. The type of guy that would give his last even if he said that he wasn't going to. Intellectual. A little nerdy. Having a hard time dealing with Chase's death because of Chase's father.

CHASE RUSH: Black, Late 20s. Male-identifying/presenting. Glen's 8-year partner. Visual artist. Fun. Easy-going. Tender hearted. Only wants his partner and his father to connect.

MARTIN RUSH: Black, Late 40s-Early 50s. Male-Identifying/presenting. Chase’s father. Hardworking. Old school. Direct. To the point. Not emotional. Doesn't approve of Chase and Glen's relationship.

WARNER POSEY: Any ethnicity, Mid-Late 30s. Male-identifying. Sensitive. Wise. Glen and Chase's friend. Kind. Honest. Caring. Gives a lot of advice to Glen. Tries to help Glen through Chase's death.

PJ/MAILMAN: Any ethnicity, ANY AGE. Any gender identification. Martin's sounding board.
