Please prepare two contrasting selections (monologues, songs, or one of each), not to exceed three minutes total. If singing, bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back. Theatre states, “We'd like you to do well – please show us pieces that show your range andability as an actor, and more importantly, are tailored to what fits you best in our season.”
All roles and chorus positions are available unless otherwise specified. For pre-cast positions, auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A NEW MUSICAL. Music: Bruce Greer. Book/Lyrics: Keith Ferguson. Mus Dir: Emi Stefanov. 1st reh: 11/26/12. Runs 12/13-30.
Bob Cratchit / Old Joe:
One actor plays both. Bob Cratchit. Hardworking clerk in Scrooge's employment. Dedicated to his family, especially his young son Tiny Tim. Maintains a kind heart, even in the face of Scrooge's mean-spiritedness. Old Joe: Rag-picker who scavenges off the dead. Baritone.
Jacob Marley / Fezziwig / Topper / Thomas:
Multi-character track for one actor. Marley. Returned from the grave to warn Scrooge of the consequences of living the life of a miser. Fezziwig: Kind-hearted bank-owner who helps Scrooge get his start. Topper: Guest at Fred's party. Thomas: Married to Caroline, indebted to Scrooge. Bass/baritone.
Gentleman 1 / Schoolmaster / Ghost of Present / Gravedigger:
Multi-character track for one actor. Gentleman 1: Looking for a donation from Scrooge. Schoolmaster: Young Ebenezer's schoolmaster. Ghost of Present: Large, jovial man who wears a long cape and has a wreath on his head. Gravedigger: Loots Scrooge's corpse/bedchambers. Baritone.
Gentleman 2 / Dick Wilkins / Ghost of Future:
Multi-character track for one actor. Gentleman 2: Looking for a donation from Scrooge. Dick: Scrooge's friend, fellow employee at Fezziwig's. Ghost of Future: Frightful apparition of Scrooge's future. Walks on stilts. Tenor.
Mrs. Cratchit:
Wonderful wife and mother, hopeful and generous. Mezzo/soprano.
Mrs. Fezziwig / Charwoman:
One actress plays both. Mrs. Fezziwig: Cheerful wife of Mr. Fezziwig the banker. Happy to reach out and help her fellow man. Charwoman: Loots Scrooge's corpse/bedchambers. Mezzo.
Belle / Topper’s Wife / Laundress:
Multi-character track for one actress. Belle: Young, lovely and good-hearted. Truly in love with young Ebenezer, but saddened when it comes time to return his ring. Topper's Wife: Guest at Fred's party. Laundress: Loots Scrooge's corpse/bedchambers. Soprano.
Tiny Tim:
Young son of Bob Cratchit. Weak and physically disabled, but full of true goodness and hope.
Girls and Boys:
Three of each, ages 8-16. Play Cratchit children and various schoolchildren.
Scrooge:
CAST. Old man whose great wealth has turned his heart to stone. Deaf to the needs of his fellow men, Scrooge must journey through his past to regain the spirit of charity and kindness he had as a young man.
Fred / Young Ebenezer:
CAST. One actor plays both. Fred: Warm and compassionate. Scrooge's nephew; feels sorry for the old man, yet still obligated to him, being family. Young Ebenezer: Saving his money,and running from a life of poverty. Still happy and sociable, and deeply in love with Belle. Tenor.
Ghost of Past / Virginia / Caroline:
CAST. Multi-character track for one actress. Ghost of Past: Young, twinkly, spritely apparition, full of the Christmas spirit. Virginia: Guest at Fred's party. Caroline: Married to Thomas, indebted to Scrooge. Mezzo/soprano.

Victor: Perhaps 50. Ideally, but not necessarily, a big bull of a man.
Mimi: 30s. Waitress. Claude's wife.
Gaston: 40s. Chef.
Miss Berger: Perhaps 40. Victor's beloved.
Claude: CAST. Late 30s or 40s. Head waiter.
Antoine: CAST. Late teens/early 20s. Waiter-in-training.
BERNARDA ALBA. Words/Music: Michael John LaChiusa. Based on the play by Federico Garcia Lorca. Mus Dir TBA. 1st reh: 2/18/13. Runs 3/14-4/7.
Musical note: The score is influenced by Spanish folk song and flamenco; vocally, this requires versatility from each actor. For instance, though a vocal role may be labeled, "mezzo", it will often require use of straight tone, sans vibrato ("belt" or "high mix").
Dance note: Dance, influenced by Spanish flamenco, plays a key element throughout. Much of the percussive and rhythmic patterns are to be provided by the actors, using footwork and palmas, and will underscore several scenes.

Wendla:
Innocent, but with every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her. Both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. G3 - E5.
Martha:
A schoolgirl with a life-changing secret. G3 - E5.
Thea:
Wendla's best friend. A schoolgirl who tries to stay innocent and pure. A3 - E5.
Anna:
A German schoolgirl and Martha's best friend. Has a difficult time understanding Martha's trials. A3 - C5.
Ilse:
Martha's sister, who shares her dark secret and has run away from home to live in an artists' colony. Moritz's last hope. G3 - E5.
Melchior:
A smart, headstrong boy who refuses to bow down to society's rules. An atheist. Struggles with his intense feelings for Wendla. G2 - G4.
Moritz:
A troubled student who desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. Has haunting dreams. Melchior's best friend. B2 - A4, tenor.
Hanschen / Rupert:
A schoolmate of Melchior's who is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to manipulate another student. C3 - A4, baritenor.
Ernst / Reinhold:
A schoolmate of Melchior's. Naive, easily manipulated. Unsure. C3 - A4, baritenor.
Georg / Dieter:
A schoolmate of Melchior's who is overcome with his feelings for his piano teacher. D3 - D5, tenor. Georg needs to be able to sing up to D5 in falsetto. The bulk of his range is between Ab2 - A4.
Otto / Ulbrecht:
A classmate of Melchior's who struggles with feelings he considers inappropriate. C3 - B4, baritenor.
Adult Woman Track:
Multi-character track for one actress. Plays Frau Bergman (Wendla's mother), Fraulein Knuppeldick, Fraulein Grossebustenhalter, Frau Gabor (Melchior's mother), Frau Bessell (Martha's mother).
Adult Man Track:
Multi-character track for one actor. Plays Herr Sonnenstich, Headmaster Knochenbruch, Herr Neumann (Ilse's father), Herr Rilow (Hanschen's father), Herr Stiefel (Moritz's father), Father Kaulbach, Doctor von Brausepulver, Herr Gabor (Melchior's father), Schmidt.
