BREAKDOWN

BETTY 1 (Female, 30s–40s, Caucasian)
Femme, rich, sophisticated. The epitome of upper east side / upper class society. Used to moving through life wielding effortless status. Has always followed the rules yet now finds herself furiously dissatisfied. Uptight, fueled by secret rage.

BETTY 2 (Female, mid-20s–early 30s, Caucasian or Asian-American)
Femme, rich, but doesn't easily fit within the UES milieu. Sexually suppressed misfit who longs for friends. Profoundly lonely. Infinitely curious creative mind. Role requires comfort singing, and ability to play guitar (or willingness to learn simple guitar accompaniment).

BETTY 3 (Female, late 20s–30s, Latinx)
Femme, bisexual. Charismatic, confident and vibrant. Kind of a know-it-all.
Someone whose creative impulses aren’t fulfilled by her job at Sephora. Redefines herself fearlessly and ferociously. Prone to impatience, can vacillate between overly confident bordering on egomania, and great insecurity.

BETTY 4 (Female, 30s–40s, a person of color – Latinx, Black, Asian, Native or any combination thereof)
Working class butch lesbian, great tattoos. A loner afraid of change. Gently melancholic (but not humorless) – tries to mask it, but can’t always. Loves hard and fiercely loyal. Too scared to tell Betty 3 she loves her. Too often ignored, but not necessarily a wallflower.

BETTY 5 (Genderqueer (masculine of center), 30s-40s, a person of color – Latinx, Black, Asian, Native or any combination thereof)
Genderqueer (masculine of center), great tattoos, owns a hole-in-the-wall boxing gym. Preternatural swagger and charisma. Guarded, uses sexual charisma to mask vulnerability.
