The Addams Family:

[ Gomez Addams ] Male-identified, 40’s to 50’s, Gomez takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an Addams. He struggles to keep his daughter's secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Sophisticated, comedic. Bari-tenor

[ Morticia Addams ] Female-identified, 40’s to 50’s. Morticia is the real leader of the Addams family. She is concerned her husband is hiding something, and will use all her wiles and tactics to lure his secret out. Comedic with a dry wit and a strong dancer with alto/mezzo vocals.

[ Uncle Fester ] Male-identified, 30’s to 50’s. Uncle Fester serves as the musical's narrator. He is larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian. Tenor

[ Grandma ] Female identified, 60’s to 80’s. A feisty 102-year-old woman. Fun and quirky, Grandma is the mother of Gomez. Strong comedic skill with strong character vocals.

[ Wednesday Addams ] Female-identified, late teens to early 20’s. Wednesday has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother, in an even more minor key. Wednesday finds love with a normal boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love – and will do just about anything to get her way! Soprano, strong belt.

[ Pugsley Addams ] Male-identified, young teens. Pugsley is a charming, funny child - who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to ensure he won’t lose Wednesday to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. Strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed.

[ Lurch ] Male-identified, 30’s to 60’s. Lurch is the Addams family butler, extremely tall, and knows all the family secrets. He speaks in moans and groans. Low bass vocals.

[ Lucas Beineke ] Male-identified, 20’s. Lucas is the romantic young man who has fallen in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her. Lucas experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Contemporary pop tenor vocals.

[ Mal Beineke ] Male-identified, 40’s to 50’s. Mal is Lucas’ stuffy father and an exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time he was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family. Male with high baritone / tenor vocals.

[ Alice Beineke ] Female-identified, 40’s. Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. She is prone to speaking in rhyme when upset. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth. Soprano with belt.

BEAUTIFUL:

[CAROLE KING] Female-identified, 20s-30s. An aspiring singer/songwriter with a powerful, distinctive voice. A unique, appealing, funny, and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. A star with no pretense and a passion for music. Strong piano player. Mezzo/Soprano belt.

[GERRY GOFFIN] Male-identified, 20s. Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner, and eventual husband. Although a handsome rebel, he is innately sympathetic, wounded, and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Baritone/tenor.

[CYNTHIA WEIL] Female-identified, 20s. Carole’s best friend. A songwriter romantically involved with Barry. She is sophisticated, smart, chic, and sarcastic. Strong comedic skills. Mezzo-Soprano belt.

[BARRY MANN] Male-identified, 20s. A songwriter romantically involved with Cynthia. Appealing, neurotic, and ambitious. High pop/rock tenor.

[DON KIRSCHNER] Male-identified, 30s-40s. Music publisher and producer at the legendary 1650 Broadway. Powerful, direct, and sometimes intimidating, but has a real affinity for his writers and artists.

[GENIE] Female-identified, 40s-50s. Carole King’s mother. She has been broken down by life and her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes.

[ ENSEMBLE ] Roles include: The Drifers, The Shirelles, The Righteous Brothers, One Fine Day Backup Singers, Uptown Singer

State Fair:

[ Abel Frake ]Male-identified, 45-60 A proud farmer who yearns for his hog, Blue Boy, to earn the blue ribbon at the state fair so he can win a bet. Strong baritone who moves well. A charming authority.

[ Melissa Frake ] Female-identified, 35-55. A modest, hard-working, family-oriented farm wife. She finds joy in her family’s accomplishments, but is unaccustomed to receiving accolades herself. Comedic skills a must. Alto.

[ Margy Frake ] Female-identified, 18-20. A recent high-school graduate, seeking to find herself and make her way in the world. She is caught between two love interests. Smart and intuitive, but also naive. Strong singer, dancer. Mezzo-soprano.

[ Wayne Frake] Male-identified, 20s. A young farmer, carrying on in his father's footsteps. At a crossroads in life and must figure out his priorities. Athletic, optimistic, romantic, joyful, earnest. Baritone.

[ PAT GILBERT ] Male-identified, 30s. Restless journalist, eager to make his mark. Athletic, comedic, romantic, charismatic in an old-fashioned way and extremely likable. Excellent dancer. Strong tapper. Tenor.

[ Emily Arden ] Female-identified, 18-30. Dreams of performing on Broadway and is focused on making that dream happen. Mezzo-soprano.

[VIOLET] Female-identified, young teens. The Chief of Police's daughter.

[ ENSEMBLE ] 13+. Various roles including Fairgoers, Barkers, Vendors, Judges.

LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR:

[ Max Prince ]Male-identified, 40-50s. A larger-than-life comic actor who is the mega-star of a hugely popular television variety show “The Max Prince Show,” based on Sid Caesar and “Your Show of Shows.” A force of nature who cannot help but dominate a room entirely.

[ Lucas Brickman] Male-identified, 20-30s. The freshman writer; sensible and sincere. The play's narrator.

[ Milt Fields ] Male-identified, 40s. The flamboyant “gag” man; a joke a minute wholesaler who deals in fast paced patter.

[ Val Slotsky ] Male-identified, 40s. A senior member of the staff and the most politically aware of all the writers. He is a Russian immigrant and should still carry a strong accent.

[ Brian Doyle ] Male-identified, 35-40s. An Irish-American with a caustic sense of humor and acerbic outlook on life; a heavy smoker, heavy cougher and heavy drinker.

[ Kenny Franks ] Male-identified, 30s considered the “boy genius” of the group but also the most sophisticated of the writers.

[ Ira Stone ] Male-identified, 35-40s. A hypochondriac who comes in late every day with a new ailment.

[ Carol Wyman ] Female-identified, 30s. The lone female writer on the staff, Carol's quick wit highlights her sense of humor.

[ Helen] Female-identified, 20s. Max’s secretary

THE MOUSETRAP:

[ MOLLIE RALSTON ] Female-identified, 20s-30s. A newlywed who has inherited Monkswell Manor and has opened it as a guesthouse with her husband. A hospitable and warm, if slightly naive, hostess and cook.

[ GILES RALSTON ] Male-identified, 20s-30s. The more cautious proprietor of Monkswell Manor. Supportive of his wife, but less thrilled to run a guesthouse. A traditional gentleman who’s quick to judge his guests.

[ CHRISTOPHER WREN ] Male-identified, 20s-30s. A young architect with a flamboyant and often inappropriate sense of humor. His energetic conversation can appear both lighthearted and sinister.

[ MRS. BOYLE ] Female-identified, 60s-70s. A retiree whose acerbic tone makes her a challenging guest. Strong-willed and uncompromising, with high expectations. Pleased only when expressing disappointment.

[ MAJOR METCALF ] Male-identified 50s-70s. An affable guest who is willing to help his hosts cope with the consequences of the snowstorm. Retired from the army, steady and calm in the face of conflict.

[ MISS CASEWELL ] Female-identified, 20s-30s. A modern and somewhat aloof young woman travelling on business. Unwilling to discuss private matters and disinterested in the opinion of her fellow guests.

[ MR. PARAVICINI ] Male-identified, 40s-50s. A roguish gentleman who is not forthcoming about his reasons for being there. Delights in the guests’ uncertainty and pays particular attention to his hostess, Mollie.

[ DETECTIVE SGT. TROTTER ] Male identified, 20s-40s.The young detective assigned to reach Monkswell Manor and report on the situation as it unfolds. Determined and authoritative in his pursuit of the truth.

Bright Star:

Actor Musicians are encouraged to audition. It is our hope that many, if not all, of the cast will play a variety of bluegrass instruments.

[ Alice Murphy ] Female-identifying, both 16-17 and 36-37. Alice at age 36-37 is an editor of a southern literary magazine; intelligent, attractive, professional – but with an air of melancholy. Young Alice at age 16-17 is rebellious, high-spirited, adventurous – looking to break out of small-town life and experience the world. A very strong singer and comfortable in folk and bluegrass styles.

[ Billy Cane ] Male-identifying. A young soldier returning home from WWII; an aspiring young writer; fresh, open, optimistic, charming, and a little naïve.

[ Daddy Cane ] Male-identifying. Billy’s father. A widower. Spry, good looking. Kind hearted, if a bit lonely.

[ Margo Crawford ] Female-identifying, a small-town bookstore owner; a childhood friend of Billy’s who now harbors romantic feelings towards him; a natural beauty with a keen intellect.

[ Max ] Male-identifying. a customer at Margo’s bookstore, at first, he has a crush on Margo, but later becomes Edna’s beau.

[ Florence ] Female-identifying, an employee at Margo’s bookstore and a childhood friend of both Billy and Margo.

[ Edna ] Female-identifying, an employee at Margo’s bookstore.

[ Daryl Ames ] Male-identifying. An assistant at a literary magazine. Funny, with a dry and officious sense of humor. Insecure, and perhaps a bit socially awkward, but endearing and innately likable.

[ Lucy Grant ] Female-identifying. A junior editor at a literary magazine. An ambitious, professional young “modern” career woman of the 1940’s. Strong, forthright and provocative with a sharp sense of humor.

[ Mama Murphy ] Female-identifying. Alice’s mother. A caretaker to her family and her rural community. A warm, loving, sensible woman. Hardworking, with great inner strength and compassion.

[ Daddy Murphy ] Male-identifying. Alice’s father; an authoritative and a stern disciplinarian; devoutly religious, hard-working, a poor but proud farmer.

[ Mayor Josiah Dobbs ] Male-identifying. The Mayor of Zebulon; a political and financial powerbroker – distinguished, an imposing and controlling presence; has a genuine interest in protecting his son’s future and his family name, but in doing so, is ultimately pushed to a point of extreme and irrevocable cruelty.

[ Jimmy Ray Dobbs ] Male-identifying. both 18-20 and 38-40. Jimmy Ray in his early 20s in flashbacks is Mayor Dobbs’ son and young Alice’s beau; handsome, boyishly charming, well-built and intelligent; from a family of wealth and power and is being groomed by his father for a similar future in the family business; an independent thinker who is not afraid to stand up to his father for what he believes in; he has a sense of personal responsibility and morality as well as a deep reserve of passion and emotion. Eventually ages to 38-40.

[ Stanford ] Male-identifying. Loyal assistant to Mayor Josiah Dobbs.

[ Dr. Norquist ] Male-identifying. The local family doctor in Zebulon.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL:

[ EBENEZER SCROOGE ] Male-identified, 50s - 70s. A cantankerous money lender who has buried a lot of memories by focusing only on his work and material success.

[ BOB CRATCHIT / ENSEMBLE ] Male-identified, 30s - 40s. Cratchit is a good-natured and hardworking clerk, striving to stay positive while supporting a large family and working for an impossibly cruel boss. A variety of other roles.

[ MRS. CRATCHIT / ENSEMBLE ] Female, 30s - 40s. Bob Cratchit’s supportive and protective wife and mother to their large family. A variety of other roles.

[ GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST / ENSEMBLE ] Female-identified, 30s-40s. Alto. Violinist. The Ghost seems gentle and ethereal, but her questioning of Scrooge intentionally causes him to address memories he’d be happier to push aside. She uses music to transport Scrooge through the shadows of his past. A variety of other roles.

[ GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT / ENSEMBLE ] Gender non-specific, 30s - 50s. Loud and boisterous, the Ghost lives in the moment but mixes their good nature with a serious understanding of the weight of time. A variety of other roles. Strong singer.

[ GHOST OF JACOB MARLEY / OLD JOE ] Male-identified, 40s or older. The ghost of Jacob Marley shows the tragic end of a life lived like his former partner, Scrooge. Old Joe is a pawn broker with a wicked sense of humor who’s not afraid to engage in dishonest business under the direction of Scrooge.

[ MRS. FEZZIWIG / MRS. DILBER ] Female-identified, 40s or older. Soprano. Much like Mr. Fezziwig, Mrs. Fezziwig is a big personality who turns everything she touches into a celebration. Mrs. Dilber is Scrooge’s miserable housekeeper who runs with a rougher crowd than Scrooge probably knows. Strong singer.

[ FEZZIWIG / ENSEMBLE ] Male-identified, 40s or older. Fezziwig is a huge personality who is loved by all and who wants nothing more than to share his love of Christmas with everyone around him. A variety of other roles. Strong singer.

[ FRED / ENSEMBLE ] Male-identified, 30s. Tenor. Fred is the opposite of his uncle Scrooge— upbeat and optimistic, he celebrates his life, even though he’s not well off financially.

[ YOUNG SCROOGE / ENSEMBLE ] Male, late teens-early 20s. Unlike his older self, Young Ebenezer tempers his drive to succeed with a dash of wide-eyed romance. A variety of other roles. Strong singer.

[ FRED’S WIFE, ANNE / BELLE / ENSEMBLE ] Female, 20s. Soprano. Anne is Fred’s wife; confident and strong, a modern woman who isn’t afraid to let her voice be heard. Featured solos--Vocal Range: B3-E5. late teens-early 20s. Belle is the girl of Young Ebenezer’s dreams, who falls for him
