Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra Presents
Jazz Organ Blues
with Vocalist Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield
Drew Zaremba, Artistic Director, on Organ
Sunday, June 7 at 3:00 p.m. / Lakewood Cultural Center
The CJRO Trio, featuring Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield, presents Jazz Organ Blues highlighting the Hammond B-3 organ on Sunday, June 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Pkwy., Lakewood, CO 80226. Tickets are $36-$38 and available at www.coloradojazz.org or by calling 303-987-7845.
While early players such as Fats Waller and the deep influence of gospel traditions helped establish the instrument’s place in jazz, its defining moment came in the 1950s. With his electrifying command of the Hammond B-3, Jimmy Smith transformed the organ from a fringe curiosity into one of jazz’s most recognizable voices. This evolution is at the center of the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra’s program, Jazz Organ Blues, which explores the sound that grew from these roots—blending blues, swing, and hard bop into a style that remains a vital part of the jazz tradition.
Honoring the tradition shaped by artists such as Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Shirley Scott, and other jazz greats, CJRO Artistic Director Drew Zaremba takes his seat at the organ. He is joined by Steve Kovalcheck (guitar), Jim White (drums), and vocalist Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield.
The CJRO is one of the region's premier jazz ensembles, featuring top-tier musicians dedicated to honoring and expanding the jazz tradition. Known for their innovative programming and electrifying performances, the CJRO continues to push boundaries while preserving the rich legacy of jazz. Read more at ColoradoJazz.org
