Dance classes in New Brunswick, New Jersey
American Repertory Ballet (ARB) and its official school, Princeton Ballet School (PBS), operate together in central New Jersey with studios in Princeton and at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, where ARB is a founding resident company. Founded in 1954 by Audree Estey, PBS has taught for over 70 years and is one of the larger non-profit dance schools in the country, known for its faculty and use of live musical accompaniment. Training runs from the Children's Division starting at age 2.5 with Pre-Ballet and Foundation levels, through the Lower School (levels 1-3, ages 8-12), Upper School (levels 4-8) and a two-year Trainee Program certified to enroll international students on F-1 visas. Elective classes include contemporary, lyrical, flamenco and tap, and private and semi-private coaching is available, including preparation for ballet competitions. Open drop-in classes serve ages 13 to adult, and there are adaptive health and wellness classes, summer intensives and children's camps, and more than 20 student theatre performances a year. Free trial and placement classes are offered.
