About this studio
The Gift of Dance is a mobile dance program based in St Augustine, Florida, that brings classes to students rather than operating a single studio. It serves preschools, elementary schools and neighborhoods across St Johns County, including after-school classes run in partnership with Village Extended Services. The youngest dancers work on a foundation in ballet, while elementary-aged students take a combo class covering the basics of ballet and jazz; classes use games and age-appropriate choreography and build towards a full-scale end-of-session recital. Founder Cristina Duncan, a former St Johns County School District teacher, started the program in 2012 as a single neighborhood class and developed a curriculum tailored to the mobile format; it now also includes summer camps and a performance team. The organization runs a scholarship application and a Gives Back initiative that sponsors hip hop classes for children through the SAYS program.
