Hyde Park School of Dance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit at 5650 S. Woodlawn that has served Chicago's South Side since 1993, providing opportunities for students of all ages to study, perform and create classical and contemporary dance at a high level of discipline and artistry. It states that it welcomes dancers of any race, religion, body type, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation and family income, and offers scholarships. HPSD runs more than 60 classes across ballet, modern, jazz and hip hop, grouped for dancers under 7, ages 7 to 18 and adults, and follows the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus with level evaluations and pointe exams. Pre-professional studio companies and 2-3 school-wide public performances each year, including The Nutcracker and a spring concert, anchor the calendar.
