CSO to Celebrate 30th Holiday Pops with 'Greatest Hits' Program, 12/6-8

In celebration of the CSO's 30th year of presenting Holiday Pops, chorus master and conductor Ronald Jenkins, who conceived the program in 1983 and has since conducted all 90 performances, has selected a program of audience favorites from the past three decades. Jenkins and the musicians of the CSO will be joined by the Columbus Symphony Chorus, Columbus Children's Choir, dancers Justin Gibbs and Joanie Evans, children from BalletMet, narrator Steven Crawford, and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus for a heartwarming holiday spectacular and beloved annual Columbus tradition sure to kick off the season with a rousing dose of holiday spirit.

One of the most beloved operas of all time, Madama Butterfly never fails to move audiences with its dramatic, emotional tale of clashing cultures and maternal sacrifice, accompanied by some of Puccini's most stirring and beautiful music. Sung in Italian with English SURTITLES, the opera is produced by Opera Columbus in collaboration with The Ohio State University School of Music and Department of Theatre, and accompanied by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

At the conclusion of the three-act play, each one of the actors Tori Hidalgo (Karen), Sam Ray (Charlie Fox) and Sean Murphy (Bobby Gould) try to sit in the comfortable leather chair behind the boss' desk only to be shooed away by another.

The Red Herring Productions' choice to stage Stephen Sondheim's ASSASSINS at the Riffe Center Studio One Theater couldn't have been more ironic. Less than a gunshot away from a stoic statue of William McKinley, Leon Czolgosz (played by Jay Rittberger) will assassinate McKinley for seven times between Oct. 31 and Nov. 9 and earn applause for it.

The Columbus Symphony today announced the launch of the Happy Hour three-concert series, offering free, abbreviated concerts for the public led by world-renowned guest conductors.
