The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival announces auditions for its 5th anniversary season. Casting for The Comedy of Errors and Othello will take place on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at The Charlotte School of Ballet (627 S. Sharon Amity Road near the corner of Providence Road). Please park behind the facility and enter through the rear of the building.

A general open call will take place on February 7 from 2-4pm; callbacks will be held from 6-10pm. General auditions are intended to introduce us to new actors. Actors who have previously worked with the festival or its producers, should contact us for a call-back appointment.

We are seeking experienced male and female adult actors (ages 18+) of all types. We frequently use gender-blind and color-blind casting, so we encourage you to think creatively about what roles may be a good fit. Prior experience with Shakespeare is helpful, but not required.

For general auditions, please prepare a Shakespearean monologue of approximately 2 minutes in length. Actors who do not have prepared monologues may read from sides provided at the audition. Please bring a headshot and resume, if available.

We are also seeking set designers for both shows.

The Comedy of Errors will be performed outdoors at The Green Uptown June 3-20. Rehearsals begin in late April. Othello will be performed indoors at the McGlohon Theatre in August, with rehearsals in July. Last year's festival was attended by a diverse audience of 6,500 residents and visitors. Actors and Designers are paid modest stipends for their work.

Actors and Designers with questions, or those seeking a callback appointment, should send an email to Elise Wilkinson (elise@collaborativeartstheatre.com) or Joe Copley (joe@copleyinternet.com).
