Sally Field Chats LINCOLN on 'CBS This Morning' Today, 11/11

By:

For six months before she began playing Mary Todd Lincoln in the period film “Lincoln,” Sally Field says she carried on a conversation with her co-star Daniel Day Lewis in a very modern way – by texting.

Day-Lewis stars as Lincoln in the film, which is directed by Steven Spielberg, and is known for staying in character throughout a project. His communication with Field was no different.

“He started texting me,” Field tells Mo Rocca. “He would text me all the time, totally in character, which was hard to do because you had to figure how, because the language was so different than how we speak.”

Field would respond as Molly, the name Lincoln called his wife. “And we talked for six months constantly. Sometimes he would just send me bizarre limericks. And I, as Mary, would write back, usually criticizing him for how idiotic it was.”

Field talks to Rocca about the challenges she faced landing the “Lincoln” role, her past work, and her love life. “I am the traditional woman in a lot of ways,” the twice-married Oscar winner tells Rocca, “desperately looking for the traditional man.”

Rocca’s full interview will be broadcast today, Nov. 11 on CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
