Opera Singer Danielle de Niese Lends 'Voice' to International Rescue Committee

International opera sensation Danielle de Niese is taking on a new role today, becoming an 'IRC Voice' to help the International Rescue Committee raise awareness of the needs of refugees and people who have been displaced by conflict, religious persecution or political oppression around the world. Danielle is the latest talent to become an 'IRC Voice,' joining a group of young, prominent artists including Morena Baccarin, Rashida Jones, John Legend, and Piper Perabo, who have all committed to do their part to speak up on behalf of some of the world's most vulnerable.

Opera San Jose to Open 31st Season with RIGOLETTO, 9/6-21

Opera San Jose opens its 31st season with Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto. This tale of innocence lost and vengeance gone tragically awry will be conducted by Joseph Marcheso, with stage direction by Brad Dalton. Rigoletto will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled from September 6 through 21 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San Jose. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San Jose Box Office, online at operasj.org or by phone at (408) 437-4450. The production of Rigoletto is made possible, in part, by a Cultural Affairs Grant from the City of San Jose.

On Site Opera and The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice present a developmental workshop of the new opera Clarimondefrom composer Frederic Chaslin and librettist P.H. Fisher. The workshop culminates with a public reading held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:30pm in the gothic sanctuary of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church (109 Main St, Phoenicia, NY 12464). Clarimonde is the second opera written by composer/librettist team Frederic Chaslin and P.H. Fisher and follows their successful collaboration on Wuthering Heights (2007; selections from the piece have recently performed/recorded in Norway, Italy, Israel and Russia by artists such as Natalie Dessay and Diana Damrau.) Chaslin himself will conduct and Eric Einhorn will direct a cast including Alyson Cambridge (soprano) as Clarimonde, Dominic Armstrong (tenor) as Romualdo, Clayton Mathews (bass-baritone) as The Makerand Louis Otey (baritone) as Bishop Serapion. Immediately following the performance, the audience is invited to participate in an open forum Q & A with the creative team and cast.

The Glimmerglass Festival has announced its 2015 Festival, which will celebrate the company's 40th anniversary.
