Pinchgut Opera to Open Box Office for IPHIGENIE EN TAURIDE

The Box Office for Iphigénie en Tauride opens at 9am on Monday.

After Salieri's The Chimney Sweep, we now turn to Salieri's teacher, the masterful Gluck. Gluck's music for Iphigénie is the climax of his efforts as a composer: sonorous, sumptuous, graceful, light, melodic and full of varied textures.

Iphigénie en Tauride pushes the boundaries of the French tragédie-lyrique genre. Innovative for its day, this opera portrays an epic struggle between humanism, compassion and brutal barbarism.

Caitlin Hulcup, well known and loved by Pinchgut audiences, will return to sing the role of Iphigénie and Antony Walker will conduct the Orchestra of the Antipodes joined by the singers of Cantillation. Lindy Hume returns to Sydney exclusively for Pinchgut to direct this production.
