- December 15, 2015 PITTSBURGH – Following a national search, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has named Christian Schörnich as its new Chief Operating Officer effective January 1, 2016. Schörnich, with more than 15 years of experience in international leadership and management in both for profit and non-profit enterprises, comes to the Pittsburgh Symphony from the United Nations, where he has worked since 2005 in multiple roles. Most recently, he served as Senior Consultant in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

- December 15, 2015 December 15, 2015 – Richmond, Virginia Join the Richmond Symphony, Music Director Steven Smith, and members from the Virginia Opera Herndon Foundation Emerging Artists Program for a special concert in the style of a Viennese New Year on Saturday, January 9 at 8pm and Sunday, January 10 at 3pm. A New Year in Vienna is a celebration filled with selected works including waltzes, polkas, and arias by Johann Strauss Jr., Franz Lehár, and Richard Strauss. This concert is part of the Altria Masterworks series and will be held at Richmond CenterStage's Carpenter Theatre.

- December 15, 2015 Boston, MA — Having just accepted the 2016 Musical America Ensemble of the Year award, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) continues its 20th anniversary season with a one-night-only concert celebrating Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. BMOP will perform the “New Brandenburgs,” six works commissioned as companion pieces to Bach's six original Brandenburg Concertos as a result of a four-year project by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. The program includes the Boston premieres of Brandenburg Gate (inspired by Brandenburg No. 2) by Paul Moravec, Muse (inspired by Brandenburg No. 3) by Christopher Theofanidis, Little Moonhead (inspired by Brandenburg No. 4) by Melinda Wagner, Sea Orpheus (inspired by Brandenburg No. 5) by Peter Maxwell Davies, and Concerto with Echoes (inspired by Brandenburg No. 6) by Aaron Jay Kernis, as well as a performance of A Brandenburg Autumn (inspired by Brandenburg No. 1) by Stephen Hartke.

LA Chamber Orchestra Welcomes Violinist Simone Porter in Concert This Weekend by BWW News Desk
- December 12, 2015 Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) announces violinist Simone Porter is replacing Stefan Jackiw, who withdrew from the December 12-13 performances due to the flu. Porter, a 19-year-old 'virtuosic' violinist (The Times, London) and recipient of a 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant, made her professional debut with the Seattle Symphony at age 10 and has appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among other orchestras. Jackiw expressed that he withdraws 'with much regret.'

- December 10, 2015 Oakland, CA, December 10, 2015—Music Director Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony continue their annual exploration of world orchestral music traditions this season with Notes from Vietnam, Friday, February 12, 2016, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre. Featured will be Emmy Award-winning composer performer Vân-Ánh Võ, who will give the world premiere of her Lullaby for a Country, performing on the ?àn tranh (Vietnamese zither), ?àn B?u (monochord), and vocals. In addition, TV and Broadway star and filmmaker Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, Modern Family) will narrate Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Completing the program will be Dvo?ák's Carnival Overture. The Symphony's Notes from . . . series has become a popular mainstay of the Bay Area music scene and annually explores symphonic music both new and traditional from cultures that may be less well known to audiences. Past Notes from . . . programs have focused on music from Mexico, Persia, the Philippines, China and the Middle East, among others.
