- August 16, 2018 The Las Vegas Philharmonic opens its 20th anniversary season on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 7:30 pm in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts with a program celebrating the works of Bernstein, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Music Director Donato Cabrera will host a pre-concert conversation in Reynolds Hall one hour prior to the performance (6:30 PM) for patrons who want to learn more about the history and meaning behind the music to be performed that evening. Following the concert, the Philharmonic will celebrate its 20th anniversary at a special reception with wine, coffee and dessert on Reynolds Hall stage ($50 per person, tickets separate from concert).

- August 09, 2018 The New York-based Lark Quartet takes its final bow at the end of the 2018/19 season, marking a 34 year contribution to the chamber music scene in America. The all-female quartet is acknowledged for its distinguished contribution to the string chamber music repertoire, commissioning over 30 new works from some of America's most celebrated composers. Most notable of the early Lark commissions were Aaron Jay Kernis' two string quartets: Quartet no. 1 Musica celestas and Quartet no. 2 Musical instrumentalis, the latter of which received the Pulitzer Prize in 1998.

The first Sydney Opera House concert will be a programme of three of the composers she most loves to play: Beethoven's Sonata in E major, Op. 109, Brahms' Fantasien, Op. 116, and Schumann's Fantasie in C major, Op. 17.

The concert, which also marks Wong's Klassik Open Air debut, comes in advance of his first season as Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, beginning the following month. - July 28, 2018 On Today, July 28, 2018 at 8:00pm, Spectrum presents contemporary Chinese-American pianist Jenny Q Chai in Sonorous Brushes, a new multi-sensory program employing Chai's unique form of synesthesia. The program explores repertoire that lives at the intersection of color and sound, exploring this meeting of the senses through important works of the colorful Impressionistic era paired with new works created using Artificial Intelligence technology. In order to fully realize this concept, Chai completed a six-month residency at Cite des Arts in Paris, where she worked simultaneously on the musical performance and the paintings associated with each score. Sonorous Brushes was designed and premiered at Wigmore Hall in London on June 26, 2018.

- July 24, 2018 With today's society in constant need of visual stimulus, staging oratorio repertoire has become increasingly necessary. Gone are the days where a chorus can stand solemnly still in their tuxes and black dresses, holding their binders at hip height, while soloists sit downstage in bedazzled gowns and teased out hair. At least the days are gone when this would attract a young, fresh audience. To their credit, La Fura dels Baus seems to understand this and executed a visual feast of an evening--akin to a cracked out Ferngully--stumbling only when attempting to drive home the message of their concept. They had a lot to say--but I wasn't exactly sure what it was...
