Victor Mooney, executive director and founder of South African Arts International (SAAI) was joined by representatives from the Mexico Consulate, Croatia Consulate, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblywoman Annette Robinson, Assemblyman Nick Perry , Brooklyn Borough President - Elect, Eric Adams, South African Arts International, board member, Dr. Lupenko and others as the Spirit of Malabo was dedicated to Nelson Mandela inside Brooklyn Borough Hall today.

The Bushwick Starr will present acclaimed dance-theater artist, Jennie MaryTai Liu's newest work, and New York City premier of Actress Fury, a passion play of one tormented actress as she takes on the role of herself. The audience sits inside a dressing room encircled by mirrors, as three female performers contest with their own deep-seated desire to be extraordinary. The actress navigates an obstacle course littered with difficult conditions: physical suffering, sexual obsession, self-love that loops into doubt, and fear of fateful intervention. Dramatic scenarios unfurl through dance to reveal an anti-strategy about wrestling with ambition and being female in this 21st century moment.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Senior Deputy Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts is one of 150 not-for-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Challenge America Fast-Track grant. Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts is recommended for a $10,000 grant to support their April 27, 2014 presentation of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra's A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.

Today, December 8 at 3:00pm, renowned violinist Philippe Quint's Quint Quintet will perform 'A Night of Tango' at Molloy College's Madison Theatre (1000 Hempstead Ave.) The Quint Quintet was founded by the four-time Grammy Award Nominated violinist in 2009. The ensemble is dedicated to exploring the music of Astor Piazzolla and Argentine Tango. The quintet will include bandoneonist JP Jofre, double bassist Pedro Giraudo, electric guitarist Claudio Ragazzi, and pianist Octavio Brunetti. Russian tango dancers Michael Nadtochi and Zoya Altmark will also appear.
