Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Extends Deadline for BKLYN DESIGNS Applications to 2/10

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline for applications to this year's BKLYN DESIGNS, New York's premier exhibition of contemporary furnishings and home accessories designed and/or manufactured in Brooklyn. BKLYN DESIGNS 2014 will return on May 9-11 at St. Ann's Warehouse in DUMBO. The new deadline for exhibitors is Monday, February 10.
Brooklyn Museum to Launch 'Off the Wall' with Wangechi Mutu's FANTASTIC JOURNEY, 2/20

On February 20, the Brooklyn Museum will launch Off the Wall, a Thursday evening series featuring site-specific performances inspired by exhibitions on view. The first Off the Wall will explore Wangechi Mutu's futuristc vision through an original performance by musician and performer Davi; art-making with artist Saya Woolfalk; an Octavia Butler-inspired reading with Kiini Ibura Salaam; and a curator-led tour with Saisha Grayson of the exhibition Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey, on view until March 9.
ERC to Bring TCHAIKOVSKY: NONE BUT THE LONELY HEART to BAM, 3/5-9

Celebrating its 13th season, the Ensemble of the Romantic Century (ERC) presents Tchaikovsky: None But the Lonely Heart at The Fishman Space in the new BAM Fisher. A fully staged theatrical concert blending striking music, powerful language and biography, Tchaikovsky: None But the Lonely Heart delves into the unconventional 16-year long relationship between one of the great composers of the 19th century and his patroness, Madame von Meck. Written by Eve Wolf and directed by Donald T. Sanders, this evening-length production seamlessly interweaves a dramatic script performed by actor Simon Fortin (Tchaikovsky) and actress Ariel Bock (Madame von Meck) of Shakespeare & Company with live chamber and vocal music performed by violinist Rachel Lee Priday, cellist Adrian Daurov, pianist Eve Wolf and tenor Blake Friedman. Featuring some of Tchaikovsky's epic pieces including Piano Trio in A Minor, Tchaikovsky: None But the Lonely Heart represents some of the composer's balletic works through dance both choreographed and performed by American Ballet Theatre dancer Daniel Mantei.

The Invisible Dog Art Center will present THE ELECTRIC INDIAN, conceived and directed by JJ Lind, on Saturday, February 15 at 7:00pm and Sunday, February 16 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. The Invisible Dog Art Center is located at 51 Bergen Street in Brooklyn. Tickets to The Electric Indian are $20 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors.

The Bushwick Starr will present acclaimed dance-theater artist, Jennie MaryTai Liu's newest work, and New York City premier of Actress Fury, a passion play of one tormented actress as she takes on the role of herself. The audience sits inside a dressing room encircled by mirrors, as three female performers contest with their own deep-seated desire to be extraordinary. The actress navigates an obstacle course littered with difficult conditions: physical suffering, sexual obsession, self-love that loops into doubt, and fear of fateful intervention. Dramatic scenarios unfurl through dance to reveal an anti-strategy about wrestling with ambition and being female in this 21st century moment.
