Mississippi Delta bluesman James "Super Chikan" Johnson plays homemade guitars—called "chikantars"—crafted from materials like gas cans and ceiling fans, each painted with vivid Delta imagery. His music blends sly humor with deep insight into Delta life, and his 2010 album Chikadelic earned a Blues Music Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. Johnson can also be seen in the 2025 Academy Award-winning film Sinners, set in his hometown. He performs with his all-female band the Fighting Cocks, featuring Laura "LaLa" Craig on piano, Heather Falduto on bass, and his daughter Jamiesa "Pinky" Turner on drums, as part of the free three-day Lowell Folk Festival in downtown Lowell, Massachusetts.
