So much negativity. Didn't one person say "I couldn't wait for this to close..." really? I'm all for hating shows like the next guy. I hate many, many shows but I wouldn't wish any of them to close. Or post good riddance in their closing thread. That would make me a c*nt.

ETA: I do hate many Spring Awakening fans. Like this girl:

And the closing epidemic finally hits home for me. I'm gonna miss this show so much. Love it.

ETA: Does anyone else think the girl in that video is practically a mini Sarah Steele?

I am very much saddened by this. What is going on? I feel like we are getting a closing notice every three days nowadays. *sigh*

Yes, fromthecity, there is lots of negativity. Not only on this thread. It's really no wonder why the good ones or favorites disappear from these boards. I mean, it's one thing to have opinions and that's fine. Let's keep it civil and polite, please.

What a day this has been. I met Karen Morrow at Seth's Chatterbox today, ran into and spoke with Norm Lewis at Starbucks, saw a great play - Dividing the Estate - tonight, and met Panny Fuller and Elizabeth Ashley...and now this! I am so happy.

How could anybody be happy about a show closing when you think about why it's closing? This is a really bad time for Broadway and I think we as the fans should be supportive right now and not cheering when a show posts a closing notice. I mean, the show had a great run and it got its money back, etc., but there's no denying that this is a beloved show for many people. Not to mention, many people will be out of a job at an awful time like this, and I'm not necessarily thinking about those who are performing in a Broadway show while still in school. Let it go in peace.

WAT has BAD taste in theater. He has bashed this show since he saw it.
Now, you may not like a show, but being happy for it ending, and all those involved losing their jobs are signs of being an awful person.

Thanks Wicked. It was such a wonderful evening. The show was such a breath of fresh air. And in a smaller space it had such an impact. My friend had never done an off Broadway show and had only seen one show on Broadway, which he couldn't remember because he was so young. So this was like a whole new experience for him. He was elated. And then we backed it up with "Stuff Happens" at The Public.

So, I went to see the show tonight and I thought it was characteristic that the cast would be upset since the show is closing. Every single one of them cried at some point during the performance and all I could think was "Is this how it's going to be every night for the next three months?" because I figured that they must've known for a little while.

Spoke to Gerard after at SD. They also just found out today. How ****ing devastating!

Yeah, they must all be heartbroken. It must be tough for them to go on with the show after hearing news like that earlier in the day.

Im so upset. I am personally more upset right now than when rent announced its closing. This show changed my life.I prayed it at least had one more year! At least I saw both broadway casts (current and OBC) and I will be seeing the tour. I know you shouldnt get attached to a show but John Gallgher and his performance really utterly changed my life. He was incredibly nice to me and we talked alot about the role and how it affects me and the whole spring awakening experiance is something I will never forget.

Matt Doyle and Emma Hunton KILLED me. She was a wreck during all of her songs and her and Matt were both crying but trying to fight it back (which we all know just makes it worse) during "Left Behind." I was sitting front row center so I could clearly see this. Matt's eyes were welling up and all of a sudden two tears rolled down his face and I LOST it.

So effing sad.

ColorTheHours, I was sad and depressed when I heard the news today, but hearing you relay how utterly devastated the cast was today brought tears to my eyes. I love Emma and Matt. Every single one of them cares for this show so much and gives it their all every single night. I will so miss having Spring Awakening in my life.

I am a huge fan of this show...but lets be realistic.

They have NOT been filling that house. For quite some time. We all knew it was coming. This has LITTLE to do with the economy....this was show that found a (fervent) but small fan base. It was limited in its appeal: MOSTLY HS and College fans (with limited funds.)

And yes....to celebrate the closing is just cruel...no matter how much you dislike a show. I am indifferent to shows that I feel "deserve" to close.

As far as the cast...I'm guessing they will bounce back a little over the next few performances as it sinks in. The last week or two will again be tough.

I hope to catch it again before it goes!

Considering the accolades and awards it recieved, I thought SPRING AWAKENING would have gone on longer. Its "Best Musical" Tony only kept it hot for a surprisingly brief time. I was very surprised to see it on TDF a few months ago. Drmamama makes an interesting point that it never branched beyond its small and fervent fan base the way RENT did. And 'small and fervent' (PASSING STRANGE and [tos]) doesn't cut it, especially now.

Of recent 'Best Musical' Tony winners, I think only MILLIE may have burned out faster.

Isn't Pal Joey supposed to be a limited run? I don't think that counts.

This show is a special one to me... but I'm looking at it this way.

It's not a big surprise to anyone is it... sadly we were expecting it a bit...

let's not morn that it's leaving... but remember and celebrate that it lastest while it did and that we got to experience it...

It sucks for everyone involoved (mostly those actually involoved with the show), but that can't be what people dwell on...
