Broadway Shows I've Seen: Hairspray, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors (2003), The Wedding Singer, Spamalot, Riverdance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity (revival), Drowsy Chaperone, The Lion King, Dreamgirls(2010 Tour).
But Goddard Lieberson got all of his, albums people have enjoyed for years, out within a week! Does it really take practically a whole summer to work on a cast album?
Timelife is a label that doesn't specialize in cast recordings. They have a huge catalogue. I imagine it takes longer for them than tiny unknown labels like Ps Classics/Ghostlight etc. Updated On: 7/1/08 at 11:40 AM
I'd love to have it now, too, but that's not an option and I can certainly wait for what will be an incredible recording.
Mr. Sher, the album's producer, does wonderful work (as his many albums prove) and I'm sure he is crafting the best album possible, but also dealing with the constraints and workings of a label very new to the cast recording market. TimeLife hasn't been churning out cast recordings for years like the other labels currently releasing cast albums. I think this release date is quite reasonable.
I'm just grateful that it got recorded at all. Many feel that we didn't "need another Gypsy recording". I COMPLETELY disagree (this "Gypsy" is easily the best after the Original) and am thrilled that TimeLife felt the same way.
Also, it is thanks to Mr. Sher's diligent and excellent work that a sampler with unmastered, highlight tracks was released during the pre-Tony period. And if that's how great they sound UNmastered, I can't imagine how amazing the final product will sound. In the meantime, though, that sampler is holding me over wonderfully.
I do believe they weren't planning on doing the recording at all.

I can't wait for this. By the way, I just saw that Patti LuPone is going to be doing a concert in Delaware in the Winter next year. Does anyone know if it's a tour? And if so does that mean that Gypsy can't last past this year?
Someone posted the other day in another thread that they though that copies were already at the theater (??). Apparently they saw them in a cabinet at the merch stand. Can anyone confirm?
