CurtainPullDowner, THE PIRATE QUEEN is the most despised show of the season. Yes, even more than THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN' (your other favorite show) and HIGH FIDELITY. At least those shows opened and closed pretty quickly. The fact that THE PIRATE QUEEN is still occupying a Broadway theatre where a more worthy work could be housed makes it all the more hated in the theatre community. I would not be surprised if THE PIRATE QUEEN is completely snubbed tomorrow morning. The Nominating Committee often doesn't care whether a show that is as a whole absolutely horrendous, and just happens to have glitzy costumes and showy choreography (HOT FEET, anyone?). If the sum of all its parts is trash, then each and every part is trash. They'll snub the whole shebang just to put it in its place. It happened with the set for ALL SHOOK UP a few seasons ago, which in itself was impressive, but the show was laughable. So the entire show was snubbed.

yeah, that's why The PIRATE QUEEN did fairly well in the grosses this week. You may despise it but not everyone does. It will get at least two and maybe three noms, I think Costumes Choreograhy and Balgord
I doubt Balgord has any chance. And while the tourists may not be despising it, the critics certainly did.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
this anti pirate queen dramaqueeness is so hysterical to me.
never saw the show, have no desire to. but its selling well, in a busy season, in a huge theater. its just not a huge flop (yet) whether or not it garners a bunch of noms tomorrow.
i dont want to get into any kind of fights on this board, but i went in with completely negative thoughts (from reading BWW), and ended up loving the show, even moreso than LEGALLY BLONDE
anyways, back to nominations for BLONDE
i see costumes, choegraphy, sets, Orfeh, and not much else. maybe Laura Bell :) maybe is the keyword

Wow- no costumes for Pirate Queen. So happy for Laura Bell Bundy getting that fifth slot!! Orfeh, costumes, choreography, Borle I all totally agree with...not sure yet how I feel about book, though.
And the "Mary Poppins Best Musical- wtf?" question will be posed in another thread. :)
Its a shame it didn't get nominated for best new musical but 7 nominations is still bloody good especially considering a lot of them are in Major Categories such as Book,Score,Actress etc etc
well done blonde
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
