"When Daniel Marries Me" cut from Once on This Island.
"Mama's Talkin' Soft" from Gypsy
"Older and Wiser" from Bye Bye Birdie (although I think they made the right choice in replacing it)
"Rain Check" from Sweet Charity.

Since no one else commented...

"Love is in the Air," cut from Forum. Cutting in favor of "Comedy Tonight" was a wise move, certainly, but it's still a lovely little song. "

Not sure where that belief comes from... Comedy Tonight was the repalcement for Invocation ans Instructions to the Audience which eventually found its way to The Frogs, of course. Sooo... ya

Come Down From The Tree - Once On This Island
Anytime - A New Brain (Not Broadway, but whatev)
We'll Have Tomorrow - Little Shop of Horrors

All of those fall into the category of on their own great songs that totally had to be cut because they would have been weird within the context of the show.

Actually, sondhead, Forum opened out of town with "Love Is in the Air" as the opening number. It was the original opening number that Sondheim wrote. About a month before rehearsals started, Sondheim began to think it was wrong for the opening number and wrote "Invocation" but George Abbott thought it wasn't hummable and that musicals had to start with a hummable song. So they went back to "Love Is in the Air."

Also, only the first part of "Invocation" found its way into The Frogs, the "Gods of the theatre, smile on us" stuff. After that it went into the following lyric (I'll just give the beginning) with a tune completely different than what was in The Frogs:

Forget war, forgot woe,
Forget matters weighty and great,
Allow matters weighty to wait
For a while.
For this moment, this brief time,
Frown on reason, smile on rhyme.

Ray, I also feel that Henrik and Anne (and most of the characters) should have more to sing in ALNM. About 10 years ago, Sondheim considered adding a new song for Desiree when Fredrika von Stade was going to play the role, but in the end he didn't. Although, of course, usually when he adds a song later, it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the score.

Speaking of additional singing in ALNM, why isn't the mixed stage-movie version of "Glamorous Life" used in the 199(6?) RNT Judi Dench revival licensed??

I liked "Why We Like Spelling" from Spelling Bee. At least it's still on the OBCR.

Sondheim let them do that "Glamorous LIfe" for that production, but he didn't like it. And though I can see the temptation to want to do it, it really makes no musical sense.

I think Step by Step from Wicked is beautiful and also This River Between Us from Big Fish. My mind is drawing a blank about others though!

I love "Ten Percent" from Chicago, but yes, the character singing it had no purpose.

This River Between Us and Family Tree were two of the strongest songs in Big Fish when I saw the Chicago tryout.

"Can't Get There from Her" from LEAP OF FAITH. It was one of the best moments in the L.A. production. In New York: gone.

"More to the Story" from Shrek.

It was a great number for Sutton and showed off her vocals and acting abilities more than any of her other two solo numbers. I'm glad it's on the deluxe edition of the cast recording. It's also on Sutton's Live from the Carlyle album.

Do you know "Bang" from A Little Night Music? It was replaced by "In Praise of Women," but I think Bang is way creepier, and therefore more appropriate. Also, "Family Home Evening" from Book of Mormon is a rare combo of hilarious and pretty.

Someone mentioned a song called "Can't Get There From Here" in Leap of Faith….where was this in the show when it was in LA?

EDIT: Never mind, found it!

Feeling Electric was an ass kicking song, and the stage production looked great when I saw it on youtube.

"It's Getting Hotter In The North" from SHOW BOAT. The show is so long already, what difference does another 8 minute dance number make!

I can't find my Playbill to give the title, but the opening number of VICTOR/VICTORIA during the Chicago try-out was much better than "Paris By Night" which replaced it non Broadway.

The show was much better in Chicago than Broadway overall. It was much funnier and really vibrant. In New York, not so much.

I would've loved to have seen these songs included in the original Broadway production of Jekyll & Hyde:
I Need to Know
Love Has Come of Age
The World Has Gone Insane
