While this score may not be one of my favorites (mostly because it's incomplete), I am glad this incredible cast will be preserved on an album.

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

I'd love to hear that ballad again.

Very pleasing news. I don't even care if the score is good or not, I just want the chance to hear it.

I wonder if they’ll be recording some scenes and scoring from the second act? Otherwise it’ll be a very short recording.

Is it too much to ask for unreleased or unrecorded bonus tracks from the Sondheim archives? :)

I am so pumped for this.

It sounds like there will be a cast recording but no filmed production, aside from the one already done for the archives.

Aside from the paranoia that stemmed mostly from the mystery surrounding the show, I always would have been surprised if there wasn’t a cast recording. I will be curious about how it’s put together, as even the first act often alternates between dialogue and song, and the second act has music even after the songs stop.

Hooray! I mean we knew...but now we KNOW.

I'm with Kads thought, maybe this will get us more dialogue then "normal".

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Even if they don’t record a lot of the act 2 dialogue, I’d have to imagine they’d preserve most of the underscoring/interludes, as they’re very Sondheim sounding. Tunick and Gemignani did a wonderful job with it.

I have learned to always take what I can get after not getting a Shuffle Along cast recording or a Company Broadway revival cast recording. Or, for that matter, the truncated Follies cast album.

That said, this is more for Sondheim completists and for people who saw Here We Are and can fill in the visual blanks. This is definitely a show that would benefit from getting to see it, especially because the producers went to the expense and effort of putting together such a top-notch stage production.

But I’ll take it.

The bows. I'm dying to have the music during the bows and playout.

I am curious: do you feel the same about Mozart's Requiem?

Why are they waiting so long? They've finished recording, all that's left to do is mix the show, which usually only takes a little over a month. Are they going to coincide the release with Sondheim's birthday in March?

They JUST recorded and I'd rather have no release date than an initial release date that later gets pushed for whatever reason. Or they still do a surprise drop, but they probably won't just with the "final Sondheim original cast album" marketing they'll be using. Anyway... with recordings from this label, they definitely get them mixed and released quickly. According to the digital booklets... ITW was recorded from July-August and came out in September, Some Like It Hot was recorded in January and came out in March...

We waited this long for this show to happen, I think people can wait another couple months for the album.

Exactly. To be a Sondheim fan for almost 20 years now (‘only’) and for it to be the first time I was actually able to see a ‘new’ Sondheim show, I personally can wait a few extra months hehe.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Merrily had two release dates. It dropped on streaming out of the blue, then the physical release followed a couple of months later. Might this be the same?

To buy the physical copy, you’re going to have to go to multiple stores- and when you finally find it, you can’t go home.

The video seems to confirm that the exit music will be included, which I'm thrilled about.
