Who saw this coming? Oh, EVERYONE!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Wayne Cilento should have never been allowed to touch this revival.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Such a talented bunch of dancers. I personally loved this show, but I think the unbearable weight of the other revivals smashed it into obscurity.

If anything, Jason Williams should have choreographed this revival! He has the spirit of Bob Fosse in him!

Sad. Do you know what happens to tickets for after the show closes? Is it automatic refund?

Yes, it's typically an automatic refund from your point of purchase unless you purchased from the box office with cash.

Not a surprise at all. Nothing happening on that stage was true Fosse (and when that’s the big thing you’re marketing your show on, you kind of need to have that correct); it was a lot of Ballet and modern dancer’s overly technical interpretation of it. The bad reviews in California should’ve warned Cilento not to bring this to Broadway.

Well last week's gross was abysmal so we all saw this coming

Too bad for all the actors, dancers, and people involved though!

I agree with this. I saw it and liked it, but it definitely does not hold up against Sweeney Todd or Into the Woods. I haven't seen Camelot or Parade yet.

I’m surprised Nicole Fosse sanctioned this. It wasn’t even pseudo-Fosse…but there was a lot of great talent up on that stage.

Anyone know what show  that's out there might go into The Music Box? Or might the Shuberts move things around that have already been announced as they did to Almost Famous last year?

Let me direct you to the What's Next for the Music Box thread

I'm not really surprised this is closing.  Even if it were "true Fosse", I don't know that it could've found a large enough audience to sustain it anyway (though maybe it would've picked up some more awards).  I did find myself enjoying it a lot more than I expected just to watch some excellent dancers, to the point where I'm considering a return trip before it ends.

It's hard to sell Wayne Cilento directing Bob Fosse's DANCIN'.  Anne Reinking, maybe.  I feel sad for the great Dancers but the really sad thing is we have no choreographers these days with their own style who can create something like this of their own.

Right? The closest thing would be like “Susan Stroman’s TAPPIN’”

When I walked by the theatre and saw their "You'll totally want to schtupp our dancers!" tag line I lost any goodwill I might have had for this revival.

Yeah, what was the wording? "If you think they look good, wait till you see them move!" or something?

Definitely tacky. Who puts that on a poster??

It's a shame. The company is talented and I really did enjoy myself more than I expected to. This might have had a decent run over the summer if word of mouth was there.

Well what was the actual wording? I do think the details matter. Bob Fosse is literally known for his sexually charged choreographic style so I think there must be tasteful ways to highlight this.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I share in people's sadness that the show didn't work -- it's exactly the kind of show that needs to be in the mix on the Great White Way. But there was no chance of a Tony nod in such a crowded category (this year) as Best Revival. And that was its only hope.

I knew it was just a matter of time when I sat in the half filled mezzanine last week.  So glad I got to see this and wish all the dancers well.  Hope they find new work soon so I can come and see them.  They really were quite good.
