It’s time to put the “culture” back in agriculture with the show that inspired audiences to give a "crop" about musicals again!

Broadway is about to #GETSHUCKED

Shucked features a book by Tony Award® winner Robert Horn and a score by the Nashville songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, who collectively have earned three Grammy Awards® and 18 Grammy nominations.

What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. Shucked is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. Shucked is about to turn Broadway on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation.

Previews begin at the Nederlander Theatre on March 8!

I'm going next week! This is the "blindest" I have ever gone into any show, so I'm looking forward to being hopefully being pleasantly surprised!

Seeing it Thursday! Only had time for 4-5 shows on this trip and I KNEW I had to see what this is all about. Super excited and definitely will report!

My apologies if this thread becomes quite an earful…

Cob County has found a new home in New York, as the new musical Shucked begins previews tomorrow night (March 8) at the Nederlander Theatre, prior to an April 4 official opening. This original comedy with corn aplenty stars John Behlmann, Kevin Cahoon, Andrew Durand, Grey Henson, Caroline Innerbichler, Ashley D. Kelley, and Alex Newell. Jack O’Brien directs, and Sarah O’Gleby choreographs.

Who else is going?

Oh look, a bibu!

I had said the set looks somewhat like Bright Star, but now I see a bit of Hamilton too!

I was at the final dress rehearsal tonight. Shucked is NOT to be missed.

Edit: I’m talking giving-Kimberly-Akimbo-a-challenge level good.

Can anyone who has seen it speak to whether or not they’d consider it a family show? Wondering whether or not to take the kids (who love little shop and & Juliet to give you an idea of their maturity).
Thanks.

“Family show” wouldn’t be a description I’d use personally, but I think age appropriateness is subjective. There is lots of sexual innuendo and some cursing. Just depends on what they’re already exposed to. For the record, Google results say “10+” and “PG-13” and I’d say that’s accurate.

I'm so wary of this one - can anyone (perhaps after a few more previews) tell me more....the plot seems so "basic" - from what little I've read.  I do get pretty picky on what I like as far as type of humor - I HATED The Show that Goes Wrong, for example.  I know I'm not ever guaranteed to like every show, but I try to be careful spending my money!

I have one spot open for my April trip, which I'm fairly certain will go to Fat Ham, but if I end up making another trip before summer (I'm considering Oliver) I want to choose well!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The reddit posts for SHUCKED has more than convinced me. Some are saying it will do well with Tony nominations, so I am so excited to have just purchased my ticket for May! I mean, any opportunity to see Alex Newell is a worthy expense.

I am looking forward to hearing any and all reports from the first preview. I think this is the least I have known about a show prior to there being an internet. :)

I just heard there are a lot of puns… which is … eh… but loved his book for Tootsie…

Imagine this needs a lot of great word of mouth since the advertising seems very corn heavy.

The corn heavy advertising seems to be working – my mom, who knows nothing about theater, just bought tickets for Saturday because she's so intrigued about "the corn musical."

I’ll be there tonight, but have heard uniformly positive things from everybody who has seen a presentation of the material or attended last night’s final dress.
