What a bummer!  I'll be in the city the previous week for Dear World.  I guess if it's a hit I'll see it sometime in the distant future.  If it's a miss, I'll be glad I didn't waste a spot on a preview.

Bizarre take, considering the critical consensus.
"

How is it a bizarre take? The critical consensus was mixed, at best, and it's not a film most people have even seen.
"

It was mixed upon original release, but it was re-evaluated in a much more positive light after the movie was restored. It's bizarre to have such a dismissive take on it now.
"

I thought the movie was terrible, with some great musical interludes.  I have read that the leads in the movie (I don’t even remember anyone else being in the movie) are NOT the leads in this…that the show is to be spread across multiple characters.  I imagine that casting will tell us more, e.g., if Anne Hathaway is signed as rumored, then that article was probably wrong.

Susan Stroman hasn’t had a musical hit in eons, but I see her as a big plus for a big, brassy musical, so I am cautiously optimistic.

MOST?   Highly unlikely.   I wouldn't even say MOST above 50.   I've HEARD of it, but never seen it...not one minute of it.  I've never talked about films and heard this mentioned (by ANYONE) Know OF it?  Sure.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Most people under 50 have never even heard of SOME LIKE IT HOT so it’s highly unlikely they’ve ever heard of NEW YORK NEW YORK. Ultimately, both shows will have to succeed on their own merits, they can’t rely on audience familiarity with the source material, which in both cases sounds very altered for the stage.

I love the movie, but it bombed and is mostly unknown today, unlike most of Scorsese's output. Famous title due to the song written for the movie.

Anna Uzele and Jeremy Jordan is the latest word that I've seen thrown around here.

Per a reputable source, Adrienne's focus is on TV/film right now. TINA was a lot for her and she needs a theatre break.

Not significantly. He is not a star in the ticket sense.

Absolutely. His run in Little Shop was basically sold out most of the time.

I imagine they're hoping for the tourist crowd attracted to a show with that name. That seems like the logic if they're going without major stars, and aren't relying on familiarity with the non-hit film since they've changed it considerably anyway.

That seems a big gamble for the St James! But I hope they can pull it off.

They have started TV promos with that artwork and the title song being played on the piano.
