I think it's titled SHUCKED now. But maybe I'm not up on the latest.

You mean the transfer is postponed, or the NYTW run too?

I know, but I thought Troynow might have some inside info to the contrary. It’s a bit frustrating that they haven’t announced dates or additional casting, but then again, that’s actually that’s true of the upcoming shows at the non-profits.

I do not know about the NYTW production. But I do know it is not happening on Broadway. It was supposed to go to the Hudson.

Last I heard, the Franklin they wanted booked a television series in the spring of 2023, so they are continuing with the NYTW workshop this year and then transferring in the fall of 2023 (23-24 season) to accommodate his schedule.

I had heard through industry friends that they wanted the Lunt-Fontanne for the fall months ago but now Sweeney Todd is what I'm reading on here is going there. Also some buzz around is that Prada may not come now until spring as they need to do a lot of work after it closes in Chicago!

If Merrily is off at the Hudson, does this portend something positive about the transfer of Cabaret?

I have to chuckle if DWP did indeed want the Lunt and now that's going to Sweeney, since DWP is produced by Kevin McCollum and Sweeney is produced by Jeffrey Seller –– former business partners.

What about ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME? That's a Nederlander show and will play a Nederlander house. Marquis in the spring if Beetlejuice is done by then?

So many shows are coming in this fall it is making me a happy person!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Audra is a goddess but it was proved by Frankie and Johnny that without her using her best talent, nobody cares.

Does anyone have any info on the show? The title is interesting. Is it a thrill? a Drama?

Yup. And she has no semi-famous costar here (Michael Shannon). It’s a bizarre choice.

I'm gonna assume that she belted her way through "A Raisin In The Sun" then? What an asinine thing to say...

FRANKIE AND JOHNNY, as I saw it, was a victim of very poor timing and zero opportunities to build up buzz. It was a foolhardy decision to open it in previews just after Tony nominations and have it open for just a brief summer run. All the buzz was going toward the big shows like Hadestown, Beetlejuice, Ain't Too Proud, and on the play front, Mockingbird, Network, and The Ferryman.

It got lost in the shuffle and all but forgotten until it popped out a nomination for Audra in 2021.

I thought the production was personally very raw and stunning

You mean the production of Raisin in the Sun that also had P-Diddy and Phylicia Rashad? I don't think McDonald was the one selling tickets there.

FWIW, I also loved that production of Frankie and Johnny, and my personal opinion is that McDonald is just as good an actor as she is a singer, if not better. Producers know that, and Tony voters know that - but do general audiences know that? Probably not. Incidentally, do general ticket-buyers even know who Audra McDonald is? (I actually don't know)

The timing probably didn't do Frankie and Johnny any favors, but Boys in the Band opened in roughly that same time frame the year before, and it worked out really well for them. Were there marketing issues too? Probably, but at the end of the day, they tried to sell the show based on the star casting they had, and it absolutely bombed at the box office.

I really don't see this doing well at the box office either. But for me personally, I'm glad I get to see it!
