The Broadway-bound musical, Paradise Square, begins performances next Tuesday for a month-long engagement at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago.  I will be seeing the matinee next Saturday, November 6th.  Definitely excited, as it will be my first live theater performance since my last NY theater trip before the Pandemic in November 2019.

Made a dinner reservation for The Dearborn nearby the theater for after the show.  It's wonderful to be making theater plans again, and to be taking the bus down to Chicago to see a show. (I live in Wisconsin.) I also am anxiously awaiting my next NY theater trip in March, where my girlfriend and I have tickets for The Music Man, Company, Six, and Wicked. (I saw the original cast way back in 2004, but she's never seen it, and she was in the mood for a spectacle show.) I may try to squeeze one more show into the trip, but with the recent closing announcements, I want to see what else is coming in March before I decide.

Hoping to hear some reactions here to the show before I go next Saturday.

I'll be seeing it with a friend in December. I'll be reporting back with what I think.

Enjoy The Dearborn for dinner! I ate there back in June and it was fantastic.

Subscribers to Broadway in Chicago can buy top row balcony seats late in the run on weeknights for just $15.

The show has been spending a lot of dough on advertising. Daily, the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper has an ad on its front page. Nearby city streetlights have been festooned with show banners.

The invited dress is Saturday, October 30. Press opening is Wednesday, November 17 with a 6:30 PM curtain. There are plenty of available seats for all performances, especially on Sunday evenings, November 14 and 21. The Wednesday, November 24 evening performance is also widely available, the eve before Turkey Day. On Sunday nights, I like to relax and get ready for the workweek. It’s rarely been a theatre night for me.

Hope that ticket sells pick up following strong word of mouth after the first few performances. I expect a daily $25 digital lottery will surface soon, if it hasn’t already. Ahead of a possible lottery, I’ve already bought several performance dates as I LOVE seeing any changes made during out of town tryouts. Getting excited to be in the Nederlander the next 5 weeks.

I, too, will be seeing it more than once--I have tickets for the first and last weekends of the run. I'm deeply curious about the show. There are a lot of interesting artists involved, but I'm skeptical that a show with so many writers will be very cohesive.

Crazy that in Chicago, this is playing a house more than 2x the size of its Broadway house.

This one will certainly depend on WOM and reviews out of Chicago. There’s a world in which this comes in with a response like COME FROM AWAY, or it could be the next AMAZING GRACE or ZHIVAGO.

Hope Garth listens to his ad agency and press agents and social team. If he tries to market a show in 2022 like he would have done in the 90s, it will close tomorrow.

We’ll see what happens…

Well his co-producer is the ad guy behind exactly that...so...

its a pass for me , looks dated, plus a can of the seating charts suggests this is a dud - 90% empty seats.

I don’t think whether Chicago audiences are going to see this or not is a good barometer for how well it will do in New York.

I went over Father's Day weekend, and had the special, which were ribs. My date had the airport chicken, which I think is on the regular menu, and that was pretty good.

As far as drinks go, the Dearborn is known for their cocktails. I had my favorite cocktail, the Old Fashioned, and that was easily one of the best ones I'd ever had.
