With the New York theatre industry closed for over a year and theatregoers hesitant to return to crowded indoor spaces amidst a substantial increase in Covid cases associated with the delta variant, producers have cause for concern. Ticket sales are not booming back!

"There's a large chunk of that Broadway audience that is a tourism audience," he said. "That tourist audience, I think, is going to take a little longer to come back."

That's another reason Kenrick believes Broadway should wait until the entire tourist industry and downtown Manhattan are revitalized.

The Broadway League's decision to mandate vaccinations was the right move, Rosenberg said, but he suspects it could have an impact on productions that cater to younger audiences.

"I think it could be tricky for some shows that have an audience that's younger, that's under the age of 12, since they can't be vaccinated at this point," he said

Comments on FB like this are very concerning:

  • They taught us to live without Broadway and so we did. Money better spent elsewhere.
  • Tickets are not financially feasible....we would love to see shows but can't afford to bring a family of 4 for the price of these tickets
  • Same here I have four kids. My husband not luke to go to trip
  • A large percentage of people can’t go because they are not vaccinated. Plus who wants to wear masks for 3 hours- ruins the enjoyment.
  • Unfortunately vaccine mandates, high prices and safety concerns being in and around Times Square is preventing Broadway’s comeback
  • Who wants to sit in a packed theater with things the way they are right now. Especially at the price they want for tickets.
  • vaccine mandates will kill broadway attendance. The second vaccine mandate is dropped you will see a flood of people.
  • The Auto Show at Javitts has been canceled at the end of the month. Look to more large gatherings to cancel. NY Comic Con will fall next. Broadway won't work with a Delta surge.
  • Nobody can pay $1500 for a ticket when they are on unemployment.
  • we can thank the anti vaxxers and anti maskers for the lag in Broadway sales. They are deplorable.
  • That's what happens when you decide to do vaccine passports. Cutting off at least 20 percent of potential business. I used to love Broadway but not anymore. Any show partaking in medical apartheid and then crying about lack of revenue deserves to go under. Free market rules all.
  • the unvacinated aren't interested in the arts.
  • No tourists no Broadway. new Yorkers too smart yo pay those high prices. . Eventually prices will come down but if your are tourist you have no choice nor knowing when you will back in city. Besides everyone saw it on Disney plus for 15 dollar
  • People won't be bullied into having to be vaccinated to go see a show. We lived without Broadway for over a year...we will be just fine spending our money elsewhere
  • $1000 for 2 tickets?… I’m going to Paris for the weekend thank you
  • I love Broadway and miss going to shows. But I’m not ready to go back yet. Seats are so close together. People are forging vaccine cards. I don’t feel safe yet to go but maybe next summer
  • Broadway also gets a lot of out of Towner's for performances. People are not traveling especially internationally
  • The City not safe overall which leads to slow ticket sales. They still want to sale premium tickets for like $800 for like Hamilton. Wearing masks and showing vaccinated cards don’t help.

Yes, there's already a substantial thread on this very article below. Very interesting discussion.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I will say my desire to go to NYC has gone down. Train costs $100 now for round trip to NYP and bus is now $70. Transportation costs alone are expensive. Plus show ticket and food. Easily spending $300 per day trip for being in the city for just over 5 hrs. It’s not worth it right now for me so I’m looking at tours. I have two stops near me (Philly and Hershey) I can check out.

Most of these comments range from irrational, to completely nonsensical.

Robbie, did you notice I started a thread about the same article yesterday? Not sure why the board needs two threads about the same article.

Let's not quote nonsensical quotes from stupid people ever again, okay?

Thanks.

Robbie2, can you at least link to the FB post in question that you're pasting quotes from?
