Just announced that MTC will mount Dominique Morisseau's "Skeleton Crew" on Broadway, in addition to a new play by Josh Harmon.
Very excited by the former! I'm a big fan of Morisseau's work, though if I had to pick any play of hers to transfer, it would have been "Pipeline" or "Paradise Blue" rather than this one.
Fairly neutral about the Harmon premiere. I have mixed feelings about his work. He's a strong playwright, but he doesn't particularly excite me. I'm actually more excited to see that David Cromer is attached to it!
I have a deep love for all of Morisseau’s work and am so excited for this. I agree that Skeleton Crew wouldn’t have been my first choice of her plays (Paradise Blue would’ve been my #1) , but regardless, this is great.
I do think we will get Paradise Blue before long. Blair Underwood has stated repeatedly that he wants to do it on Broadway. I’m just glad she is finally getting her Bway debut.
Underwood is very talented and he can do what he wants. And if he is dead-set on playing Blue on Broadway, and that's what gets the show produced, then it's probably for the best. But it would be very classy of him to allow J. Alphonse Nicholson -- Underwood's co-star in "Soldier's Play" -- to reprise his fantastic performance from Off-Broadway.
I know Underwood played the role first, and he has the star power. But I feel like Nicholson is more age-appropriate for the role. Plus, Nicholson is an extremely skilled actor, and deserves to be a massive star. And a gig like this could be a big step in his career.

Excited for Morisseau work, whatever it is, and equally excited for a new Harmon work- Bad Jews and Significant Other were two of my favorite plays over the last decade. More of all of this please.
This is the best news to come out of Broadway in almost a year. Having seen the play, it somehow seems even more relevant now than it did 5 or 6 years ago. Finally, something to look forward to on the Great Bright Way again!
