Completely agree and it’s just nice to see news about shows opening rather than closing, even if they’re 8 months away.

LOL Unless you’re white, you’re not thinking about Music Man. Wouldn’t call it a “juggernaut” yet. LOL

That show and Flying Over Sunset have always felt non-progressive based on all the other shows around them. And now after all the conversation about equality and inclusion, they will really look tone deaf once Broadway opens back up.

White people are still going to get cast in shows.

If you did you research Flying Over Sunset is based on real people and real accounts. And it was cast the way it was cast based on that.

Since it hasn't even started rehearsals, I don't see how you can say that.  There have been a lot of badly reviewed revivals of classics over the years (although I bet this will get solid reviews).  What exactly are you expecting MM to win that MR or WSS would have won...certainly not lead actor or actress, since WSS and MR were not going to win either of those, although I will concede that Powell received very strong reviews.  I'll bet Danny B is a lock for supporting actor, no matter who opens, and MM doesn't really have a featured actor role that cries out serious potential Tony role.  IF Sutton is in the lead category, which I bet she will be, there is no real supporting actress role that justifies awards contention in MM (IMO).  Sets, costumes, lighting...you really think MM is at risk fin those categories.  MM and WSSare in the revival category, but was WSS a lock?  Dying to see it, but the reviews were all over the place.

So we are down to director and choreography.  MR is the hit it is because of Alex Timber's vision.  I wouldn't rule him out, no matter how many tickets HJ sells.  The MR choreography was highly acclaimed, even by critics who did not like the show.  Re WSS, we are talking about a production which is very divisive.  Have not seen it yet, so I can't comment, but I would say that I didn't think Ivo had a chance against Timbers to start with.

Why were my posts removed, Broadway World? Really terrible and disappointing. That was not a personal attack. I called out what was true. The remarks by Jordan (is he a mod?) to my posts were the attack — and it still remains while my defense has been deleted.

You should ban the instigators instead of deleting the posts.

This is unbelievable.

Wow, you laughed at your own comment twice. Adorable. Clearly, you don't know much about Broadway or the shows that were most anticipated for 2020. The Music Man and Flying Over Sunset were two of the most exciting and talked about shows that were happening. As I said in a different thread, if you have a problem with the lack of diversity for The Music Man, don't go, it won't make a dent in their sales, they don't care and they don't need your money. Barely anyone said a thing when the cast was announced.

And of course as other people have pointed out, Flying Over Sunset is based on real people. If you had bothered to do even one minute of research, you would know that.

And now after all the conversation about equality and inclusion, they will really look tone deaf once Broadway opens back up.

Not all shows can have 95% diversity. Some shows will have 5% and others will have much higher. It's not a competition and will people go to shows that are good and that interest them. Flying Over Sunset is at Lincoln Center, most of their subscriber base are older white people. And, again, that's okay. Your incorrect logic and lack of knowledge on Broadway audiences are both painfully obvious here.

I feel like Doubtfire will return. Company will likely return depending on availability of that cast (although they could also recast if needed of course). I think it's safe to say Diana won't return, given how dreadfully it was being received when it was in previews. But who knows."

Kelly Devine gave an interview recently where she stated that she is still actively working on Diana. So it would seem they are still planning on opening whenever Broadway is able.

Man, a lot of previously-announced shows are working their tails off to try and return next year! Even poor Diana, which didn't seem to receive much buzz early on. I hope Judy, Erin, and Jeanna especially can stay on board.

Is she actively receiving a paycheck? If not, she is not "working" on the show. Shows can be virtually rehearsing all they want, but if no one involved is getting paid, it has no sway in whether the show comes back or not.

can someone explain to me why wanting more opportunities for POC folx is somehow worthy of this continued level of venom from people on this board? Good lord. It's not funny anymore, it's depressing.

Well first off thanks for signing up to the board just to post that.

Secondly, get over yourself and stop clutching pearls by deliberately misinterpreting what was said. To quote someone who just signed up the other day said, “it’s depressing”

no, but seriously, working in the industry: the only most vocally excited about The Music Man are the same white people who thought Hello Dolly was anything other than overkill glitterati nonsense. Flying Over Sunset has been written off, nobody cares that much.

And of course as other people have pointed out, Flying Over Sunset is based on real people. If you had bothered to do even one minute of research, you would know that.

All the more reason to not produce it. Adds nothing to the conversation.

Broadway's history of pandering to wealthy white people is the reason a show like Flying Over Sunset will be produced. The reason The Music Man will be produced. I don't think there's any disillusion of how Broadway audiences work, there's simply a desire for them to stop being insufferable. The reality is that every show on Broadway, in fact, can be inclusive. It just doesn't want to be. Nor do the audiences. There's a reason it's called supremacy...

Yet....you are an audience member so I guess you are insufferable as well. Not like it took you admitting it for me to be aware of that fact, though. Wealthy people buy theater tickets, since it's a luxury item. Makes perfect sense. The Music Man and Flying Over Sunset will be produced which was the only thing that you mentioned that actually matters here.

You seem preoccupied by this, though as I've said on this board in a different thread: I'm a long time (looooong time) lurker. I joined within the last several weeks so I could chime in about how awful Tootsie is. Not really able to prove it (a reader will just have to trust me), nor that keen on indulging someone who has shown time and time again they contain next to zero interest in acknowledging (with any modicum amount of respect) the potential good that cam come with social justice and/or radical change and/or inclusive practices, instead somehow opting to bat themselves like a bird against the walls of a cage, taking ordinary words like "woke" and attempting (badly) to use them as a pejorative, outing themselves as clueless and stubborn. It's Trump-like at best, really.

In short (too late!): this is my first username. :) If there are more than one users on here that's calling you out, I suppose that's a reflection on you (hint: that's not a question being posed).

I work for an off broadway company and get comps. I don't pay to see anything, actually. If I like a show and want to go back, I might spring for a discounted ticket somewhere. And duh they'll be produced. Nobody is arguing that. The idea that they'll be produced and illicit a rapturous response, or that anyone other than a select few who all look exactly alike are thinking about them with any serious interest or anticipation (especially during the pandemic), is likely not so. You're also not the cardholder to a monopoly on what matters, sorry to say. You're regularly insufferable and incorrect and narrow minded and short sighted and ignorant and stubborn on here, and once in a blue moon I'll let off steam reminding you of it.
