Maybe I had forgotten just how good the raves were Off-Bway, but it feels like a definite Best Play nominee (along with Mockingbird and Ferryman). Especially with Jesse Green calling it "not just the best play to open on Broadway so far this season, but also the most important." Maybe Hillary, Choir Boy, and Ink are now fighting for the final slot?

Perhaps wishful thinking but I feel like the Times calling it the best play to open on Broadway this season solidifies its slot as a best play nom. How wildly thrilling is that!

It might not claim any major awards, but in terms of nominations, it could certainly be a spoiler for Best Play and Best Actress In a Play based on these reviews

Wow.

I knew practically nothing about this play and am delighted.  Wasn't expecting anything at all like this reception.  Reading these reviews is a "found money" kind of feeling.

I’m thrilled by these reviews too. I wish Schreck would run for President. She might not have the experience some of these other potential dem nominees have, but she has the knowledge and WAY more enthusiasm and love for the government and its people.

A Schreck/Mayor Pete ticket would be a dream!

I know I haven’t seen Ink yet, but this and Ferryman were my two favorite plays of the season.

I'm thrilled with these reviews. I remember being a touch disappointed with the NYT off-Broadway review because it didn't connect with Brantley as strongly as it had with me. So I was delighted last night to see that Green got the review and that it was a rave. This is unusual, yes? I can't remember the last time that the critic who reviewed a previous run didn't follow through with the Broadway review.

It's a pretty packed season, and I still have shows left to see, but based on what I've caught so far, even having loved The Ferryman, and even with Jackson and Metcalf delivering stunning performances, I'd be thrilled if this took Play and Actress at the Tonys.

I noticed Schreck doesn't have an understudy listed in the Playbill. Doesn't AEA require an understudy?

I can't remember when women have been more powerful in this country. They are on path to equal or surpass men in the professions of law and medicine. It would be no surprise if women take control of the House of Representatives and make even more impressive gains in more local politics. These could bring improvement to the country and the world, as women are seldom such brutes as many men.

The power has been seen so often at the many times has a woman has accused a man of harassment or assault, often on a Friday, and on Monday the man was cleaning out his desk. No doubt most of these men deserved what they got, but it is disturbing that the statements of the women are usually uncorroborated and the men are given nothing resembling due process. The Sixth Amendment doesn't apply to private corporations of course, but some nod in that direction would seem warranted.

So the men troup in to see this with a "kick me" sign on their butts. So many "facts" and allegations cry out for a rebuttal, but this is a polemic, 

Are people just accepting this statement: "More American women have been killed by violent male partners in the last century than Americans have been killed in wars, including 9/11." Well, just in Vietnam 58,000 men lost their lives, and almost an equal amount came back permanently traumatized. Eight women were killed. If, as is alleged, three women a day are killed by their male partners (we are not told the rate at which the woman kills the man), it would take over 19,000 days to match the Vietnam total. That's fifty three years. That's just Vietnam. Over 400,000 were killed in the Second World War.

I won't go on outraging you. But consider these incidents of domestic violence. How is the Constitution supposed to prevent these. What Amendment can be added to stop them. That which is ignored here is that some responsibility must fall on the woman. The Justice Department reports always say that the abuse or killing comes during an argument between the couple, often fueled by alcohol. It must be the responsibility of the woman to make sound choices of whom she invites to be intimate with her, when it is a good time to damp instead of escalate an argument, and when to dial 911 if things get out of hand.

If the Constitution could eliminate guns in private homes, that would be a help. What else?

I didn't realize Brantley had reviewed the Off-Bway production. Yes, it is extremely unusual that Green reviewed the Bway production (but a pleasant surprise). That was discussed a lot in the leadup to BMC, because standard protocol says Brantley would re-review the Broadway transfer, which he did.

She could have one who opted out of being listed in the playbill. Or, the producers could decide to cancel the performance if Schreck's out. Glenda Jackson doesn't have an u/s listed either (though that's not uncommon with major "event" stars).

I will take it elsewhere, since no one here is ever ready for a debate. They just want you to go away.

But remember, I said that we and the world might be better off with women in charge, and I said that most of the men accused of sexual harassment and assault probably deserved what they got.

But you would probably agree that some of the accusing women are being untruthful and in this country the accused men are mostly guilty but the rights of the innocent must be protected.

And how would you amend the Constitution to end domestic violence? I'm pretty certain that you have no answer for that. Some women are innocents who just happened to marry brutes. Others are willing participants in arguments that can escalate to violence. Domestic violence is only rarely a case of black and white

??!!??  So often?  Many?  Not in my lifetime and not in my kids lifetime is this the norm.  But don't let me stand in the way of your well-researched claims.

He is just educating us because we don't get it.

And let me be clear - I'm probably older than OlBlueEyes.  My experiences are obviously not the same but it's always good to have women's issues explained to me by someone younger and male-er.

I'm going to propose to the mods that some of these posts - including mine - be deleted from the thread.  Although we all enjoy the OlBlueEyes lecture series we see spread throughout posts on the board, these in particular are very off-topic to reviews for the show.

I’m an attorney, New York and New Jersey bars, retired. Haven’t see the show but I may. Understand that the concept and execution by Ms. Schreck is original and often charming, but felt that too much nonsense had to be answered.

More women are murdered by their men than there were men killed in all of last century’s wars? Do the math.

The Constitution should have been written to protect women’ rights? How could the Constitution have been written to prevent domestic violence? Men deserve a majority of the blame for spousal abuse, but the women are all blameless. Was O. J. Simpson’s wife smart to provoke the husband she knew was capable of jealous rage? Othello is a tragedy because the man was manipulated into killing Desdemona. All of the murderous conduct in Gatsby is triggered by adultery.

I’ve made my point. Got the mindless responses I expected. Been here too many years to be intimidated. Understand that there is much to be praised here and the creativity of the author is undeniable.

How do you understand anything about a show you haven’t seen, except general conceit?

And where are you getting this claim that more women died of domestic abuse than all casualty in wars in this century? I haven’t seen the show either, and I’m not seeing that statistic quoted in these reviews.

Heidi doesnt come out after the matinees as she is exhausted and rests between shows.
