Saw her on Saturday and the whole show was wonderful.  She's quite good in the part - I really felt she did good job with the comedy but really nailed the poignancy.   Her Before the Parade Passes By brought a tear to my eye.

The rest of the cast was spot on - not a weak link in the bunch.  This is a terrific show and those waiting for the tour to hit town are in for a treat.

^ I went on Saturday as well and I strongly agree. And the sets and costumes are just gorgeous!

Im not sure why anyone is surprised that on a tour a 71 year old is going to miss some shows. She's in a major leading part, is touring nearly every week, it must take a major toll. Be disappointed all you want but anyone thinking she's not human and should be there every single show is just being ridiculous in my mind. She's human.

Poor decision making on the part of Betty Buckley or the Producers to take this on.....the missed performances are continuing?????

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I highly doubt we see her extend. Just curious what kind of name they can get for the second year of the tour?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't think its anyones fault. She seems to be great in the role and has missed some performance due to illness. I fully understand performing is her full time job, but she is also 71 and is traveling every 2-3 weeks. And her Monday's are travel days, soundcheck and opening night on Tuesday, and she's a leading lady carrying an entire production. It sounds like Jessica Sheridan is wonderful in the role. If anything, maybe she should be on for 7 performances a week but Im not sure. It happens, you miss work, she misses work, we're all human.

I think people are assuming that since Carol never missed a performance, no one should ever miss a performance. However, anyone who lives to be just shy of 98 is clearly built differently than most human beings. I can understand people being disappointed about Betty being out, but you can’t blame someone for getting sick.

Nothing wrong with being disappointed, because it is dispapoitning! To attack the performer though is what frustrates me. These are some of the hardest working people alive so give em a break!

As for the 2nd leg, hm. Donna Murphy makes the most sense, idk who else. For some reason Kristin Chenowith popped into my head. Not even sure her age but she's a name who could sell maybe in some secondary markets. I have no clue on that front to be honest though.

She had a vicious cold in Chicago, and she got sick again and required vocal rest last week. I don't think it's necessarily linked to her age as much as bad luck and constant exposure to new germs in new locales. She didn't have known attendance issues on B'way.

It could be that someone is cheap but it could also be that they just can't believe what they are seeing. I was at a performance during Rex Harrison's last run in My Fair Lady. He walked through the performance in a fugue state and Cathleen Nesbitt was, by then, so feeble that a man in a morning coat had to lead her around the stage and get her to hit her mark. At one point she kept calling Pickering by Henry's name and called her son, Henry, Colonel Pickering. It was SO bad that people (including me) were openly guffawing in the balcony. Yes, I stayed. I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

What is frustrating to me is thatif there were athread discussing a performer being absentand being a liability to a production for mental rather than physical illness, that thread would be gone. Where is the deference to Ms. Buckley?
"

It was not my intention with this thread to attack anyone.  I love BB and will be seeing the show yet again next week.  But I am into the production side of things.  And I am very interested in a star driven tour managing without its star on the road.  She is above title.  She is a name.  People are paying money to see her.  She is part of what they are selling.  No one is saying she isn't human.  No one is saying she isn't aloud to be sick.   I see nothing wrong with talking about it here and will continue to do so if I can.

There was a long line in front of the Pantages last night for refunds or exchanges.  I work two blocks away.

I did not mean to attack you with this. I think discussing it is totally fine as well, but comments like "Guess who's out again?" Just come off snarky and rude. I agree from the production sides of things this is interesting. Also as a ticket holder for a Saturday matinee it makes me feel I should just switch tickets to opening night or a Friday or something, but I'd never leave if I showed up and saw she wasn't performing, but I can see why some people may. I have no qualms with this thread at all but I have problems with people just complaining she isn't performing. Sorry again if it came off any other way.

Is that so?  Then why, in your original post, did you include a sentence (which you deleted the following day) implying that she might actually be visiting Disneyland.....a not-so-veiled reference to the now-debunked postings that claimed Betty Buckley was kicking up her heels at Disney World at the same time she was missing Orlando shows due to illness?  With this thread, you wanted yet again to STIR  THE  SH**, and you did.  That was your intention.  Own it.

Donna Murphy never toured or worked regionally even before her husband's passing, and I can't imagine she could be persuaded to tour now, as a single parent with a fairly young child. And Chenoweth's way too in-demand to tour, especially since she didn't originate it.

I think the biggest name we'd see after Buckley is a Beth Leavel, Mary Testa, or Julie Halston type.

I was in Anaheim and Irvine most of this week for work and saw a great tv commercial for this show. They were heavily promoting Betty too. It's too bad I couldn't stay longer to go see this.
